small sensor fun

This thread caused me to dig in the stored cameras tray and an old favourite popped up.

The ageing battery allowed me one shot before it said "enough".

Here it is taken with a more modern compact, shown with its lens set to "266mm" but at its wide end of "38mm" it still looks exactly the same. A neat design.

It used "folded optics" a Minolta patent.

Your Casio has that lens arrangment the other way.

Most brands had one or more models like that, including the WP types.

I think they were all made by Sanyo.

I still use my Pentax MX-1 sometimes and am reminded what a great camera it is each time. When the battery dies and I can't get a good one, I'm going to cry. I should probably sell it now, as they're worth a lot at the moment.

I have considered adding an MX to the team on and off for a while, but then I pick up the X10 and wonder what it would add to the mix. It's a great little camera, though, and I have seen some nice images from it.

Handling-wise, Your X10 looks better. The MX-1 is a brick; not very ergonomic. The Olympus XZ-2 was better in that regard. (same lens, same sensor)

The MX-1 has a great 28-112 f/1.8-2.4 lens. It's not a compromise lens, as you might think it would be. It might be a little more compact than your X10 with an equivalent lens, but probably not enough to warrant its purchase.

Nothing but a small sensor camera can go from 28mm to over 800mm without changing lenses. To me that is very important.

I have several small sensor cameras, find them enjoyable to use. here are samples of my latest camera, a Kodak WPZ2.
