I purchased an SLTA55V camera on Mercari that shipped from Japan. When it arrived, all the menus are in Japanese. I can't figure out how to change them to English or if it's even possible.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

You have to read the descriptions twice when you buy from Japan.

There _is_ a way to enable the full language set. There are instructions here in this category - I don't have the link offhand. Do a search.

It's amazing what a simple search can turn up.

How to change the language on Sony cameras?
And does this work for Japanese market cameras? I know for the A7 models, Japanese market cameras are Japanese only; though OpenMemories may allow switching on cameras that supported apps.

I don't think that video is relevant. The camera the OP has has Japanese only, no setting to change. They were made exclusively for the Japanese market. You have to do a firmware change. It's on this forum somewhere.

Correct ... a hacked firmware change, if it can be found, and if it works for that model.

True, but what else is the OP going to do? Put it in the bin?
Sell it back to someone in Japan or who can read Japanese ?

And next time buy something from anywhere else in the world.

Just a wild thought , wouldn`t an English manual (or Guide book ) describe the Menu pages and options to set it up, then once setup language will not be so important. Always assuming the OP does not change settings too often - even set it to Auto?

And assuming the menu is exactly the same layout, the options all being in the same order etc .

That would probably work .

Frequently changed settings such as W/B , ISO , AF/MF , drive mode , etc are done using the Fn button anyway .

Glad you found a solution to the problem

john :-)
