Slimmest CP filter???

Can anyone tell me what company makes the slimmest 82mm CP filter? I have done some research, but the manufacturers' sites do not list the thickness of their CP's. Word-of-mouth says that B+W and Hoya make the thinnest filters. Any comments?

Don't know if they're available in that diameter, but the Hoya "Slim Line" are definitely thinner than B+W, which are actually toward the thick side compared to most. Both are good, Hoya is less expensive. T

I have finally found that the Hoya ultra slim circular polarizer is 5mm thick. I am waiting for an answer from Schneider concerning the thickness of the B+W slim-line circular polarizer.

Hello!

I have finally found that the Hoya ultra slim circular polarizer is
5mm thick. I am waiting for an answer from Schneider concerning the
thickness of the B+W slim-line circular polarizer.

I use the B&W slimline CP. It's a very very good product, and clearly as slim as any other slimline CP from Hoya.The quality of the CP is simply phenomenal.

The thickness of the slim-line filters has to do with the thickness of the glass!

The filter needs to be thin so that the rays of light from an angle are not causing extra darkening as you would get with thicker glass.

The mounting ring thickness is another story but could be solved easely with a step up ring and a larger filter that could clear the image better in the corners.

Yes, that is correct. I need to minimize or eliminate vignetting on a Sigma 15-30mm zoom, which has threads on the lens hood for a 82mm filter. I've already tried a standard thickness B+W cicular polarizer, which is about 6mm thick. It produced very slight vignetting when shooting at 15mm.

The mounting ring thickness is another story but could be solved
easely with a step up ring and a larger filter that could clear the
image better in the corners.

You're right, but I would have to use a 82-95mm step-up ring, since 95mm is the next larger size. This would be an expensive & fragile setup.

I think slimline filters from Hoya don't have threads up front.
If you find one please post here your findings.
I need one too but not CP, just plain glass will do.

No. The Hoyas come with a push-on cap, since there are no front threads.

There are push-on caps available for the B+W. I'm not sure if the caps are supplied with them.

I think slimline filters from Hoya don't have threads up front.

None of the slim-line or ultra-slim filters have front threads.

I need one too but not CP, just plain glass will do.

If it's for the Sigma 15-30mm, go for the slims. They are 3mm thick as opposed to the standard 6mm. I believe the CP will be about 5mm thick.

You're right about that, Jim! That's why I may opt for the Hoya, which I can get for about $157. -And it comes with the push-on cap!

I just got an e-mail from Schneider Optical concernig the B+W CP:

Mr. Boyd,

The ring is 4.5mm thick on the Slim circular-pol. A lens cap is included.
