Ummm, I can't say I agree with much of your simplifications. If anything, I want more buttons so there is less stuff buried in menus where it isn't easy to get at. Of the things on my D70, the only ones I would toss are the scene program modes. This is my first DSLR but frankly, I don't need help knowing how to set the camera for a portrait vs a landsape vs a night portrait. I use exactly three modes on the dial (A/M/S in that order of frequency). What would be nice would be to have 3-4 preset modes available on that same dial though.
I don't think the idea of all this auto flash power and whatnot is useful. Todays cameras are smart, but sometimes the photgrapher still knows what s/he wants better than the camera does.
