I've been trying to find a way to get the shutter actuation count for my 5DSR but everything I run into says nothing exists and/or there might be software you can buy to find out. Why would Canon not have the shutter count easily located when they sell the cameras based on how many shutter actuations the cameras are rated for? That's like not having an odometer in a car...you can tell how much use a car has gotten by reading the miles/milometers displayed on the odometer. In trying to sell my 5DSR every person that contacts me asks what the shutter count is and all I can tell them was that I have no idea. Is there free software out there that I am overlooking that can read this shutter count?

Hi all,

I'm not sure of the etiquette of reviving a two-year old thread, so apologies in advance if I've transgressed, although I thought it may be worth revisiting as a lot can change in two years.

I have a Windows PC (and no access at all to a Mac) and would like to confirm the shutter count of a used EOS 5DSR I have just bought.

I quite liked the idea of looking at the file name which - I assume - is in hexadecimal notation? An online converter tells me that the file name of '0B8A9273' is the decimal equivalent of 193,630,835 so I guess that's not quite right, otherwise no-one would need to worry about shutter actuations!

I have tried downloading different utilities, all of which promise everything and (seem to) deliver very little. Some of them appear to have rather dubious origins and I have been so uncomfortable with some of them that I have decided not to download and try them.

SO, has anyone any first-hand recommendations they might be so kind as to share, please?
Many thanks,
Richard

Thank you for your kind suggestion, but I'm afraid I have no access to any Apple/iOS devices. Would need to be Windows (or even Linux), as there was a conscious decision taken in this household some years ago not to diversify into Apple/iOS for reasons with which I won't bore you now.

Regards

Richard
