Yet another strange "not in the manual" questions on the S1...

I'd like to take a shot at writing some custom software apps for the S1... Has anyone else out there been able to lay hands on the Software Development Kit for this camera? Any contact ideas? I've got an e-mail into Fuji directly, but thought I'd also toss it out here...

Thanks yet again,

Jim Arthurs

I'm interested too. But Fuji's support has been pretty poor in general. I was looking for a service manual and never got a response from anyone at Fuji who knew anything about getting one. If you get a response, let me know.

In getting Fuji to fix the error in focal length reporting this year I was able to speak directly with the top tech folks here in the states. I asked about an SDK and was told "No", no chance at all. Heck, I was even willing to fix the silly problem for them with focal length reporting and they wouldn't take me up on it. If you folks find out anything else, I'm very interested as well.

Now that's crazy. It can only benefit Fuji to have folks working on specific
software applications and non-mainstream tools. How could it be a
bad thing to have specialized software tools written third party? Any
code written would only be of use to this one camera, and that's pretty
good copy protection, if you ask me.

I do have a name and an extention, and will report back with any progress...

Thanks all...

Jim, I completely and wholeheartedly agree with you, it makes no sense to me at all. Here is another question to ask. Why does Fuji not give us the ability to upgrade the firmware ourselves? This could be done via USB for crying out loud. I asked this question when they finally called me re: the firmware upgrade. The response was, "too difficult and dangerous". To which I say "pshaw, I do it for my GPS, for the BIOS on my computer, lots of stuff". Not that my comments did me any good.

Good luck in getting better then I did, let me know if you would like to trade names, numbers and extensions. I can be found directly at [email protected].

It's just the way corporations work. They are not your friend, nor they are an open forum, nor they have to goal to improve...
They just produce something to sell it and EVENTUALLY GET THE BUCKS!
That's all folks.

That's also why they don't upgrade, they give a * about it. Those who got one payed for it already. So all that's counting to them is the second batch of product to throw onto the market to make the bucks of tomorrow.
Sorry being no negative, that's just the reality.

I asked this
question when they finally called me re: the firmware upgrade. The
response was, "too difficult and dangerous".
Must have been from the mouth of someone who doesn't know what they are talking about and is too lazy or doens't want to look stupid by going to ask someone who does know.

Well, Mike, the guy who told me this is, apparently, the only guy at Fuji repair in New Jersey who has a clue that a firmware upgrade exists :-). I do agree, however, that he is not savvy at all about doing upgrades. Other Fuji products support this, as should the S1. I did hear the same thing from the "head guy" in the US, so this does appear to be the corporate stance. I still want a D1x with the Fuji software and a full-frame CCD.....for 2,000 dollars....

Wouldn't it be great if someone could hack the firmware and produce an ISO 100 or 160? Removing that last stop or two of noise would make the S1 image unbeatable. Why can't Fuji figure that out???
