ok,,, i have heard about the "noise" issue. We have gone over that many times here, along with "you cant use the sd9 at night" talk (i know thats not true..) But, how well does the sd9 work indoors? not in a studio...im talking with a flash. Maybe a kids birthday party or maybe the holidays..I have just noticed most (not all!!) of the pics on pbase are outside. Any shots??

Carl Rytterfalk ( http://www.pbase.com/rytterfalk ) has taken a monster gruntload of pictures in indoor, outdoor, and Swedish situations. If that does not convince you that the camera works indoors with or without a flash, I am not sure what will. In addition, Dominic has some indoor concert shots somewhere, and I have some birds and spiders as well. Carl is the reference for starters.

I have some flash shoots, they were taken with a flash that could not communicate with the SD9 (at least it could flash on shutter release but thats really all). It was actually quite close to a kids birthday party but the people on the one flash shoot I made there did not want to be displayed on the Web. I also got some pictures with flash from the Rock Concert but they showed how ugly and small the stage was so I left them out. You could leave a mail and I can send you some samples.

It works like a dream bouncing the flash off the ceiling. Acts like a nice softbox. The Canon shoe cord works with the Sigma EF 500 DG Super and SD9 to allow you to get your flash off the camera body and still allows TTL.

I still have to get the 500 DG Super, as well as some additional Lenses, but this was pretty much what I did, the old flash I used has a small flash (about the size and power of a pop up) I let this on go straight for filling and bounced the bigger one in the ceiling. But as I already said enlightened the scenery looked just too poor. In addition to that I was not that good by guessing f-stops after a few beers but this was of importance in this situation because the ceiling was quite dark. I am 99% sure that a real diffuser / softbox combination works better for shoots with Persons, I will buy (or order if this SARS cr*p is scaring the world longer than 2 month from now) one of those as well.

I've had little problems with indoor shots with a flash. I've got the 500DG, with a Pocket Diffusor from lumicent. I will post some of my pics when I get home.

My problems are mostly due to 'new to SLR syndrome' I hear it's curable with experience.

I
I posted this image just recently, just to show how sharp pictures
you can take with SD9.

The photo was taken with flash

If you have broadband, check out the original size. The details are
amazing.

I'm interested in this question also. I notice that all indoor shots posted thus far are flash shots. That sort of skirts the issue, in my opinion, which is how the camera performs under indoor lighting conditions.

Let's see some tungston or fluorescent illuminated photos. How about some stage photography, where there is some movement and typical (i.e., dim/high contrast) lighting.

thanks for the shots..i like the info below them that you provided.hey, i noticed on some you used a low res. Any reason why?

I have a 256MB CF card. I only get 32 high res photos, so sometimes i switch to low res to allow me to capture more moments.

i'm saving for a 512 though ;)

Check Dominic's concert shots.

Victor,

It may be a while before there are a lot of indoor shots without flash, for whatever reason. Frankly, I have taken a lot and they are fine, but my desk and house is such a mess that I hate to show it to anyone. I did one with Carl to check a lens, and that was embarassing enough.

I had about 6 of them in the users Gallery but only keeped 2 of them because of storage space reasons. I had to go with the 70-300/f4-5.6 so far from ideal with ISO400, most of the images I did where actually underexposed and pushed later in SPP, so you could see that it is possible with the Camera.

I have some more shoots indoor without Flash shoots as well, and you can find some if you search throught the different Galleries. I just have to get hold of some free webspace that allows me to host the big original Files again. If downsized (half size) is ok for you I could post some of my crappy indoor shoots as well (crappy because of the Composition, unintersting subject, etc), just don't want to "pollute" the users gallery with that stuff.

Thanks much. I went ahead and ordered this.
My biggest problem with flash is overexposure.
This should help greatly.
