The progressive is for web display functionality. I wouldn't use it.

The optimized improves the color quality, but I have no idea to what extent. I always save in standard, but after thinking about it I may investigate the benefit of the optimized.

As far as compression ratio, you said the magic word: compromise. For 20 cents per CD, I don't compromise on image quality after buying an $800 camera. I always use 10 except when I want to email it.

Hi,

As already said in this forum progressive is for web use and produces more than one image. When you load a web page and see a very rough image appear and it is gradually replaced by better and better images as the data is loaded onto your computer. I have never used optimised but if I ever use jpeg I always use standard at the best quality. The file sizes come down by a factor of 10 which for me is enough. Dropping the quality does not decrease the image to much of an extent after that and the image quality drops dramatically.

I hope this helps,

Regards,

Richard
