Holy cow! This is such a great honor. I can't believe the owner of dpreview actually replied to one of my messages.

I'd like to share a picture I took with the canon ELF. I set up the tripod and had someone shoot it.

I'm sure I'll be shooting like Stephen Eastwood when I get my 20D.
I actually gave him some pointers and I'm glad he's following through.
Still no rabbits though.

Cromatic Aberration with 17-35 L, that sucks, are seriously saying I should even think about upgrade?

No, you better keep your camera and wait another 10 years, by then Canon should have something that will meet your expectations.

Well, for those who don't have Canon magnesium body DSLR, the 20D is definently nice but the samples simply suck when compared to 10D, that is a fact!

Hmmm, maybe a pair of glasses may help. You seem to be in a very small minority, or did you bring up the 10D samples by mistake? :o)

I am able to read out the smallest detail from 30 cm away, and I have 19" LCD!

Conclusion

The Canon 20D deliver first rate image quality. Clearly superior to those from the 10D in several aspects. All of those that stood on their soapboxes prior to the 20D's launch pontificating on how higher pixel count sensors of the same size simply couldn't have as low noise, let alone lower noise, can now go to the back of the class.

So do I! As a new visitor to the Canon forums, I have owned a Minolta A1 since this past Christmas. I have been waiting patiently for Minolta to release their entry into the DSLR market.From the sample images, Minolta better have their act together because from what I have seen, the 20D just went to the top of my list.

Being mostly a portrait/landscape photographer, the only issue I have with the 20D is the lack of a spot meter. Since my A1 has that option, I see no reason Minolta would not include it on their impending 7D. But with image quality like what I've seen in the 20D samples, I may have already made up my mind as I am sure that there is a workaround for lack of said spot meter. In addition, I have no legacy Minolta lenses to sway my decision.

At the moment, the odds are I will be a permanent resident in the Canon forums. Image quality will be the largest deciding factor in which system I decide on. To this point, the 20D is the industry leader IMHO.

Kudos to Canon ... the 20D is an awesome-looking piece of machine.

No man, the gallery RULES!

Seriously, there's a lot of wow factor in the shots (out of respect for bandwidth, I haven't downloaded fullsized shots yet). The depth and contrast reminded me of the WOW that I got viewing the Leica samples. There seems to be a lot of "palpability" to the shots as viewed at the small size. Most other galleries seem just a bit "washed out" in comparison. I'll be interested in doing a little downloading for comparison in the coming days, but since I've only had my 10D for about 3 months, maybe I shouldn't :chuckle: .

PS, since your new peeps are local, I hope you consider making the bridge shot mandatory, even for the mini-reviews (I know, I know, there are a few cameras in the past that don't have it due to you having taken the shots in the Orient). Still, it's nice to have one image that is good for comparison, as long as the viewer realizes that even those shots will vary according to season, time of day and sky conditions.
 
Don't panic, let me think for a minute, there must be a good reason. I see the problem now, the 20D images are real big, so you are going to need a 22" CRT monitor. ;o)
