S602 - new firmware?

Gidday,
Ok I stuffed up the numbering, my apology, A-E=rows, 1-5=columns.

The pix I took of the CCD were totally useless, I didn't want to keep it open too long so I didn't do them again. Are you seriously going to open yours up? If so, don't hesitate to ask ANY questions if your not sure (Feel free to email at any time). As for cleaning the actual CCD I would seriously read what the DSLR folks do, after all those guys do it all the time and would know from EXPERIENCE the pitfuls and results. I have read many threads on cleaning in the DSLR Forums. The 2 main issues are "static" and "scratching". If it was me I'd just use VDU99, an anti-static screen cleaner from CRC. In fact I use it for everything - including sores, arthritis, dandruff .. just kidding ;-)

Hi JKirk,
sorry but I don't understand which pics you mean with A5, B2 and
B3, I don't see these numbers on your page.
So if you had to blow off some dust/particles on your ccd what
would you recommend?
Thanks in advance

WEll well well,

I returned from "place" today where I uploaded NTSC then PAL to my S602. It was from the USB port but another "place" told me that they've been able to do uploads for ages. Good ol' engineers network. Dealers will have the capability to do uploads in the next 2 weeks, I don't know what options yet. I'm eagerly awaiting the announcement from Fuji :-) PPFFTT
As soon as I get more info, I'll post.

Hi! I'm quite new here, but I've seen something interesting and
want to ask. On this page
( http://www.impuls.neostrada.pl/fuji602/602fujisoft.htm ) someone's
put supposedly a new firmware for S602 along with a brief
instruction. He's got it by e-mail from one of tech support people.
I might be version from 602 Pro with fixed battery status display
and faster (movie?) writing to CF. The only problem is... no one
has tried it yet. It seems to be a 'legit' update, but it is
somewhat unresting to have a prospect of dealing with the service
with badly reflashed camera. So - is someone brave enough (or with
easy access to Fuji's service) to check this file and give a report?

They WANT your MONEY Off of YOU for New Camera...That's the Only UpGrade They Will Ever Give You.....

They Could Bring Out a Top Of the Range Camera tomorow that has it all...The Expertese is there, The technoligy is there, and they Can do it...
But They Wont...Because they Want Your Money....
Good Thread this n Very Informative...

Whoaaaaa, take it easy fella,

This isn't actually a Fuji bashing thread, you've probably taken the wrong turn somewhere :-)

Right now, I wouldn't give my S602 up for anything. Maybe one day if there's better out there but UNTIL then I'm deleriously happy. Even then, this model will take its place in History. I won't bother debating business versus consumers etc etc you have done an excellent job, Flawless logic :-)
Thanks for your insight.

Capture the beauty of the world one frame at a time.

I never held a button down at start up (didn't think of it), only played with some afterwards since the start itself didn't reflash.

Just to document what I've tried...
All under plug-in power, where E: is the camera's removable drive,
I tried all of these using both SM and Microdrive at startup, with
only one memory card present at a time:
E:\DCIM\100_FUJI\Imfidx10\mv320rsc.s3
E:\DCIM\100_FUJI\mv320rsc.s3
E:\DCIM\Imfidx10\mv320rsc.s3
E:\DCIM\mv320rsc.s3
E:\Imfidx10\mv320rsc.s3
E:\ZJ00547-101\Imfidx10\mv320rsc.s3
E:\mv320rsc.s3
None do anything.

There will definitely be a button to hold down for it to work, GUARANTEED. It's exactly like the Minolta 7i procedure. Anyway, yesterday (not the real day) I uploaded NTSC then PAL options to the camera via USB. Further enquiries found that all dealers will have update capabilities within 2 weeks. One I met has had it for quite a while. A specialist company has more info on the SM procedure. I won't be able to get more info for a few days unfortunately, but we're HOT now.

What combination of buttons did you "hold down" during power up?
Just hang on a day or two, there's a possibility dealers now have
the capability to do it. I hope to find out tomorrow.

2 weeks ! The waiting will kill me :-)

Let us know what happens, any chance of actually getting the images & procedures from your contacts ?

Cheers

If this discussion results in some functional additions, there will be a lot of interested person... (there was a post concerning a 'wish list': http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1012&message=3909686 )

I personally know just some things about VisualBasic - I know, it's a shame :-( - so I can't really help, but it is interesting anyway.

Please don't forget - if possible - to show the focal lengh and focussing distance.
It would simplify the manual focussing...
Maybe the 602 should write these infos also to the exif-datas.
The ability to get a 'customized' program for the s602 would be
fantastic, and something that I would definitely pay for.

The main issue is backup. I want to make absolutely positively
certain that I can return the camera to the original program should
a problem arise.

Things that I would pay for:

a) Having the focus ring run the zoom when the camera is in
autofocus mode. The toggle sucks, and the ring is wasted when in
autofocus.
b) The camera goes back to where I left it in the zoom and focus
whenever I turn it back on after an auto-shutoff.
c) A completely separate menu for "erase all" and "format'. It
makes me VERY nervous to have the "Erase Frame" on the same menu as
"Erase All". It's just a catastrophe waiting to happen.
d) And the ever popular continuous numbering. I shoot several cards
in one session, and it is a royal pain to combine them into a
single directory later.
