S3 Important discoveries !!

Leo,
Some Tests.... w/ Tripod and equal RAW sharp and contrast setup. ;)
My opinion, for what it's worth:
  • I do believe there's a little bit more sharpness and texture in your +1EV examples, as you and other have been claiming, but it's defintely not dramatic. I'm not sure it would show even in large prints. It would be interesting to also have crops of the R pixels alone, just to see how much detail they have to contribute, and maybe also how much noise (since noise can sometimes add up to the perception of texture).
  • I have the feeling that in some cases the crops of S pixels at 0EV show a tiny bit more texture than the S+R pixels combined at same exposure, then there's an improvement again at +1EV S+R. If that's so, ACR and S7 may not be doing a very good job at blending the S and R pixels at 0EV for best detail.
  • Best highlight recovery seems to have been at 0EV exposure. This is particularly noticeable in the last two images, where some strange colour shifts start to creep in in the +1EV crops of overexposed areas. That is, you may gain something by overexposing, but you may lose something as well, depending on the circumstances.

Hi all,

I hope tests are still being made for this. I'm really interested in seeing more results from further testing. I wish I had the S3 to do this test myself. But actually, if this test pans out to be true, all the more reason for me to get an S3 (barring the S4 comes out - & is not too much - 2 arms and 2 legs :D haha. Then photography would be the least of my concerns?! :P )

Sincerely,
Huy (sounds like "we")

So...just to make sure that I have it all clear>

General rule: Expose for the shadows, and +1EV.

It just sounds so WIDE OPEN though.

Mike

I don't expose for the shadows,...and sometimes use just +.5, unless you really want to PP alot...the camera has good enough rez SOOC for me. But if you want the rez, then yes, push those lazy r-pixels into working for you by overexposing and PP. You + rez but I think you lose in color saturation then.

Try the experiment! It would be good to see someone else's results :)

Wow,

Finally a response to this again after a long while. I hope there are some that are working on this, and will provide MORE samples & conclusions again. That would be great.

Sincerely,
Huy (sounds like "we")

+2.5 a little overdone (had worked great with bounce flash, ran out of batteries and went to camera's flash, forgot to change exposure and flash compensation settings)

Can somebody tell me where to go to download the s7raw software?
AND WILL IT WORK WITH CS2.
Thanks, Ray. URGENT!
Just in case you're new to the 'net, Google is an excellent search engine/site. I just typed "s7raw software" & got this:

http://www.google.com/search?hs=ruv&hl=en&lr=&client=opera&rls=en&q=s7raw+software&btnG=Search

Look at the very first item.....click on it...

As they say, Google is your friend.

Photos speak louder than words.....let's all post more photos.

Wow i cant believe ive not seen this threet before, its really magic how you can controll your pixels at S7Raw (Is it compatible witch MAC,coult not see nothing regarding...) Thanks to all ,now ill have to do my tests on it...i knew that there had to be any mayor control on the pictures taken, than the results that ACR gives you (as i only was used to handle with PS cS2 & co.)
