I just got my S3 and have had a couple of issues. The memory card that came with it works just fine. The San Disk Ultra II 2G will not format and does not work. I also noticed that using the camera in the macro mode in natural daylight has produced a pronounced blue tint. Any suggestions. The camera was used with default settings.

I first purchased an S2 IS and a SanDisk Ultra II 1 GB card. I had no problem formatting it. When I exchanged the S2 for an S3, I put the same SD card in the S3, expecting to have to reformat it but the camera is reading the card just fine.
Did you check the tab on the card to ensure that it's writeable?

I'd exchange the card and try another in the camera at the store where you got it (if it was a B&M establishment). SanDisk is usually pretty bulletproof.

If the camera doesn't read the 2nd card, oopsie. Also, try a 1 GB card if you can.

try formating the San Disk with your PC/Mac/linux box (if you have a SD reader/writer). If you need to specify a format choose fat or fat 32.

Sorry, unable to help on the macro question

Fragrant--
Wouldn't the camera have to format the card so they could talk to
each other?
Not necessarily, I've been reading my 2GB SD with my computer's SD reader and I formatted the card with the computer. The S3 recoginizes and uses the card just fine (shooting pics, movie mode, camera playback, etc.). I haven't formatted a card with the camera, but I suspect that it formats the card as FAT-16.

As for the color shift, Canon suggested that I return it for a replacement. I think I will do so.
I will try and figure out how to format it on the computer.
Thanks.

Let me know your computer OS and I should be able to give you some basic instructions if you need help.

The Ultra II 2gb works just fine In my S3. Also, try manually setting the white balance to remove the color cast.

Windows XP

When I try to use the card it says error and corrupted data.

I found the white balance and re-set it. I will have to wait untill tomorrow when the sun is up to see if that was the fix. Thanks!!

Well, I registered the card with San Disk and asked what they thought. It would appear that I have been taken by someone on E-bay as the registration number is not right. So the first thing I do is ask for $ back. Then report it to E-bay and Pay Pal. With any luck, I will recover most of the money. Sigh. I did buy another card at BB and of course it works.

I got a chance to try the camera out this weekend. I do like it. I am still figureing out everything. Like how you program some settings in for recall. But this was just a point and shoot at some kid at the ball game.

There's been a recent topic about these fake cards on ebay.

Buyer beware.
