Rx1r II like rendering on A7cr

Currently have an A7cr for which I’m trying to find a lens that can get as close as possible to the rendering or “look” the rx1r II provides which I loved when I had my rx1. The obvious choice size wise would be the 40mm g, however I do have the 24g and I’m not too impressed by it regarding rendering, even though other aspects are top notch.

I do need relatively fast AF, so buying another Rx1r II wouldn’t make much sense.

Any suggestions?

I hear you about the RX1RII rendering. I had the RX1R and then the RX1RII and really enjoyed the images from them.

When I had the A7CR, I used the GM 24mm f1.4, a relatively small lens that is known for both sharpness and excellent bokeh. I mapped APS-C toggle to a button to get 36mm at approximately f2, when I needed it (or just cropped in post).

Since rendering is important, to you, keep in mind that the EFCS (only) on the A7CR will start to degrade bokeh over 1/2000 second. Therefore, I used silent shutter, when possible, for such shots.

I have the RX1RII and A7CII. I recommend Sigmas i-series lenses. Sigma 35mm 2.0 DG DN has a similar rendering to the lens in RX1R II. Unfortunately it is larger and heavier. I find the much smaller Sigma 24mm 3.5 and Sigma 45mm 2.8 to have much nicer rendering than Sonys 24mm 2.8 G and 40mm 2.5 G.

I second that, great combo:

Well, at least that extra weight minimizes the already subtle A7CII shutter shock ** to ignorable level when shooting handheld.

Cheers, Ralf

** compared to full mech shutter in the A7IV for example.

I chose the Sigma 35/2 after a brief dalliance with the Samyang 35/1.8. Pardon my ignorance, but how can a shutter without a first curtain cause shutter shock?

Subtle as it is, there is still a shutter curtain moving in that cam (same for the A7CR) in EFSC (F for first...) mode, providing 2nd (!) shutter and hence ending exposure by moving when not using full electronic shutter. And the impulse when that move begins can be felt (at least I do).
Cheers,
Ralf

So Electronic First Curtain Shutter has less energy to excite vibrations than full mechanical shutter with two curtains?

That is what I feel especially when comparing full mech vs. EFSC on my A7IV.

And EFSC in the A7IV is also louder than in the A7CII. Given the A7IV can shoot 1/8000 sec while the A7CII can only shoot 1/4000 sec in EFSC, maybe a more "massive" shutter construction in the A7IV?

All above: Non-scientific observations from daily use.
Cheers,
Ralf
