RX10 IV: AEL+ button "unable to magnify" response

whilst out taking photos;
never seen this response in ~8 yrs of RX10 series images;
took stained glass window detail image, wanted to check for camera shake;
several times got "unable to magnify" for that image;
went back to previous image, was able to magnify;
went forward to problematic image, unable to magnify multiple times;
took new image, was able to magnify;
went back to stained glass window image...
NOW WAS ABLE TO MAGNIFY!
& further magnifying of later new images worked...

anyone experienced this issue...?
is it a 1 in 200K quirk?
does it indicate future issues around the corner?
(my RX10 IV ~4 yrs old, otherwise working)

Why not just use the zoom lever to magnify images?

Didn't know about that option.
Still interested in reason for AEL+ button kerfuffle...
Maybe at that moment for that image
zoom lever would have also said, "unable to zoom"

Agreed I always do it that way. I have never tried it with the AEL button.
