My a200's imaging stabilization decided to die so i think im left for it to be replaced.

Ive been considering the a37 but ive had people recommend the a57 and a58 as well.
Any one have some exprience with theae cameras and can give me advice?

Thanks

I think the a65 would be out of my budget. If im able to find an a57 new how does it compare to the a58?

I upgraded from the a200 to the a57. The a58 is a 20.1mp camera while the a57 is 16.1mp. I don't know anything about the performance of the a58 at high ISO but I get great results at 6400 with my a57. The articulated LCD works differently from the a57 to the a58 so it will depend on what you like. I think the LCD on the a57 is more versatile. The other difference is the frame rate. The a57 is capable of 10fps while the a58 does 5fps. So its a bit of a tradeoff in features and it depends on what you value. I love the speed of my a57 and the 16mp is a huge jump from the 10mp of the a200 and I'm thrilled with it. Good luck.

Every once in a while look through the for sale forum and the other day I was in there and looked at this...

you might check him out...

If you call a few sony style stores you'll find one that has an a57 in stock. I just picked up a new a900 last week from a Sony store for $899. it takes a little work but you can find deals.

Ruble,

I just got an A99 today, I have an A65 that is 10months old not alot of use. Let me know what your looking to spend and maybe we can work something out! It has an 18-135 that came with it that I cannot use on the A99 so that will come with it.

Another thing to consider is the flash hotshoe. Whether you have any existing flashes etc. a58 and a99 use the new shoe while the rest use the now discontinued version. While an adapter may be used, it's always better if u can mount direct.

The A57 has a better quality EVF I believe, along with higher shooting fps, better video quality, and great high ISO performance (probably the best of the SLTs). Not that the A58 is a bad camera, but I would try and get an A57 if you can.

Good luck and happy shooting!

Another thing to think about is form-factor / handling / ergonomics - call it what you will. I have an A200 and when trying out the A37 I found it too small to hold as comfortably as the A200. The A57 was much better in this respect and that's what I bought. The size / feel may not matter so much to you, but I think the A58 is more like the A37 in size. So actually handle and try out the options at a camera shop first IMO.

Why not getting the same camera again? Just buy an a200, a300 or a350 used.

In fact A58 has a BETTER VF (same as A65) than A57, and best JPEG engine of all Sony's today even it is not perfect. A58 is slower on burst and lighter with more plastic ... but nothing affect how it works.

I played with both A57/58/65 but I kept A65 for old flash socket, GPS, VF, and 24M pixel for its cropping power and I had no indoor noise problem so far :-) They all have that annoying picture affect button if you accidentally press on ... :-(

The A58 is also supposed to have slightly better high ISO even though it has a higher pixel count. :) The biggest issue I have with the A58 is the low resolution display, to low in 2013 even in that price class.

I upgraded from an A200 to an A560 and then later to a 580. I was blown away by the difference in iso performance & dynamic range. I think you'd be happy with either the 57, 58 or 65 to be honest.

For some reason I never really got warm with the A4xx/5xx series and the SLTs. I would still rather buy an A3xx series body. :P Of course if you need better high ISO (and A-mount) it isn't an option anyway. ;)

It depends on where you live. Here in Singapore you can find it as well new but not for US$899. :|

I want to go new because i bought the a200 in good condition with no signs of being dropped and no scratches. Didnt put to much use into it and took care of it and then this problem arose.

The A58 is an A3x replacement. Other than the sensor, I doubt many A57 users saw the camera as an upgrade. I know I had zero interest, although the new model does have the distinction of being the latest and perhaps last SLT (?)...

About the difference in IQ, if you replace the A200 with the A37, is like you upgrade from a flatbed scanner to a drum scanner °_0 A37 is a HUGE enhancement.

This camera is beyond all my expectation (as a reprographer). For me a perfect tool to make all around photography...

Have some tiny differences between the two about features/button and the back LCD of the A57 is better. I don't know if that justify to pay twice the price. I have an A37 from april. And it do the job very well. But I have to use prime lenses because the 16 MP is very good and AA filter is very permissive as far as I know. I suspect that is something to do with the "new area-specific noise reduction (NR) algorithm" what can enhance sharpness by the same way. Maybe a reason why some posters believe that the A35 provide better result (but it was not my experience, because I had both).

Cheers,

OK, I understand. I prefer new cameras (and lenses) as well.
