Well that's true, but I think he did spell turds wrong, as terds.
At least he is smart enough to capitalize words at the beginning of each sentence.
this guy has shown that he lacks the qualifications to even have an opinion, let alone communicate it. he is dumb.

threads like this just serve to bring traffic to his blog and therefore money in his pocket. that's why he writes these controversial pieces.

do not read his blog.

Although I disagree with virtually everything KR writes, at least I do so in the knowledge that he is not so sure of the truth himself. Anyone that hasn't read his 'disclaimer' should do so before jumping up and down:

This site is provided only for the entertainment of my personal friends, dogs, family and myself. I've never promoted this site. If you're reading this, you got here on your own.
And then on the page with the actual article:
I support my growing family through this website, as crazy as it might seem.
If you find this as helpful as a book you might have had to buy or a workshop you may have had to take, feel free to help me continue helping everyone.
Maybe he should roll it all together and have a disclaimer on each page on which he asks for donations. Something like:

If you find this personal rant in which I made stuff up to augment my far from original sophomoric views (which have been expressed far more eloquently by others innumerable times over the years), feel free to help me continue beating this dead horse.

As usual, I like most of his POV, actually, I like KR, ever since I bought the overpriced and bulky Canon G10, KR pointed out that the ixus SD880 basically has identical IQ, is a fraction of the size and cost....so I tried one...he was exactly right and I sold the G10, the little IXUS is brilliant, it has less knobs, less snob value but it does a great job, its 10mp vs 14mp....so what ?
I loved this quote

", few photo hobbyists worry about taking pictures anymore. Instead, it's all about Lightroom or Camera Raw, workflows, profiles, HDR or whatever. "

I really like KR.....he does talk some BS.....but dont we all ?, on balance I like his approach

And that's exactly what I dislike about KR. Forum discussions suggest that yes, a number of photographers do spend time talking/thinking about post processing, about gear, etc. And you can draw exactly nothing in the way of conclusions from that. What if all the gearheads are on forums and the millions of camera owners who aren't on forums think only about taking pictures ? What if all the people discussing lightroom are doing so because they want to organize thousands or tens of thousands of pictures ? And is it really more important to be concerned with "taking pictures" than with "processing pictures" or is that just lazy jpeg-lovers finding a way to diss photographers who are more serious about their results ?

KR is a practitioner of stupid, gross generalizations. (Like internet porn being responsible for the decline of photography because it drew men from their cameras to their computers).

On dpr, I talk about gear, I talk about Sony & marketing & strategy. I have 20K digital files in Lightroom and am behind in my categorizing and PPing. I shoot plenty of pictures. They're mostly personal, for me, my friends, my family. Just because I don't share them here and talk about gear doesn't mean I'm not a photographer and I believe that's true of a great many so-called "gearheads".

Under it all, he has a few useful, basic points but again, they're hardly original or unique to KR. You can find other articles that express such thoughts without the Chicken Little approach.

KR may be someone that uses "stupid generalisations" as you call them, but tbh, thats what we need sometimes, there is so much overblown pretentious garbage on these forums (not just this one)....sometimes its great when someone points out that the emperer has no clothes on (dont know if you know that childrens story)

But hey, I think KR is great....me and him think alike......but I accept that not everyone agrees, you are correct though, I dont take photography that seriously, I cant be bothered with RAW, or even the expense and hassle of photoshop, I like P&S cameras in general better than DSLRs.....my photos are perfectly good enough for me...so why give myself all that hassle ?

Vaughan,

I think that when you read a KR article, the message that lies under all the hyperbole is a basic one that runs counter to the gear discussions that might help keep things in perspective.

The problem is that the gear discussions lack perspective. You might look at a thread involving a half dozen people debating the pros & cons of button placement and start thinking button placement is the most important thing in the world. And if so, then maybe the occasional dose of KR might help. The question is: do the participants in those discussions lack perspective or are they just discussing a small detail in great depth ? It's hard for the uninvolved reader to know.

The same is true of KR himself. He provides a counter to those gear discussions, but his own rants lack perspective. He takes the "gear doesn't matter" mantra too far and I wouldn't suggest a newbie rely on KR without reading some specific suggestions from people who are willing to tell you what to look for in a camera to counterbalance his simplistic view.

It's also hypocritical, as KR dismissed one Sony DSLR because it lacks the all important 1/250s flash sync speed found on his Nikon. Gear doesn't matter, but Sony's DSLR is useless because the flash sync speed is too slow.

That's basically it, I guess. KR's writings lack any sense of balance. They're always extreme and always to be taken with a grain of salt. Same here, but in the context of a discussion, it's ok to omit all the "yeah buts".
