RAW or JPEG?

99% jpg on my FZ50, SilkyPix I don't like. I use DxO Pro 4.4 in manual mode, fantastic program. Hoping there will be a module for the FZ50 soon, so I can use auto assist mode.

Used DxO with matching module, for my previous Minolta A200, then upgraded to FZ50.

I got yer easy right here...I just use Picasa's program and I click the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button. Sometimes it works...

But seriously, I own a FZ7 so RAW is not an option. But I have a fair amount of success tweaking jpg's.

but I agree the implementation on Panny cams is pretty poor --
write times of several seconds, no buffer, and file sizes more than
twice what they need to be.

I find several advantages --

1. More dynamic range
2. More detail
3. Better control over noise reduction (esp with Silkypix)
4. The ability to avoid annoying color shifts in the Venus engine
(unless you really like those sky colors)

If you're already doing post-processing of images, RAW doesn't
add any time to the workflow; I just do most of the levels/curves
and exposure adjustments there instead of in photoshop.

And to counter one of the previous posters, I never use the
auto adjustments in ACR. I have never seen them improve
an image.

No Raw option available for my FZ5 and I never used Raw initially on my D50 because it chewed up the memory on my 512MB cards.

Couple of weeks a ago a local shop had a good deal on 2GB SD cards though and I shot over a hundred Raws.

Good: I have been able to PP the images far better than before

Bad: My PC is pretty old and slow so batch processing 100+ Raws is a definite 'no no'. At present I have to look at all the images and pick out what look like the best to process, then later I pick out the second best and so on...
Two weeks later and I've still got about 50 images to process :(
