RAW on a point & shoot??

The panasonic that many have mentioned would fit the bill for size,
but write ups don't give it a great mark for noise reduction with
higher ISOs. Or is this a plague in general with P&S cameras?

Wondering if I should just be concerned with overall image quality.
In other words, a camera that render terrific jpegs may be better
than one that has the capability of shooting a raw.

Yes. That is sound approach. It would have been better had Fuji F30/F31fd had Raw. But even without it, it is cut above all P&S. And Sony N2 is second best ultra-compact. If wide angle u want, then Sony SD800IS

Not sure where to post this.

I normally use a digital slr but would like to get a small point
and shoot that can shoot a raw image. It has to be small enough to
filt into a woman's handbag (average size).

Any suggestions?
