Some time ago I asked for ideas for a cheap speedlite for occasional use with my Canon R7.

The consensus of recommendations was “get a Godox TT350c”.

I’ve finally got one, but having problems getting it to work.

Camera is on firmware 1.6 (Released 20 Sep 2024)

Godox is firmware 1.7 (Released 5 May 2019). This is latest on Godox website.

In Shooting (Red) Menu 3 External Speedlite control both “Flash function Settings” and “Flash C.Fn settings” say cannot detect. Is this normal?

Although the Godox seems to work it doesn’t seem to communicate with the camera. For instance Godox in TTL mode and camera in “P“ I get the pre-flash but no proper flash.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

It sounds like the flash is not correctly seated in the hotshoe or that the contacts are dirty. Also ensure the screw is tightened properly. The flash is acting like a manual flash using the centre pin only because it cant communicate with the camera.

Thanks. You were correct. It wasn't fully forward.

Now working OK
