Quick Studio Portrait with D-70 and studio strobes.

was it a particualrly fast shutter speed?

was she rushed in and sat down quickly?

did you rush in and quickly shoot it?

:)

looking forward to seeing the un-quick ones
Actually this is just the light test shot, more to come tonite ...

Hi Yves,

I like the lighting setup. It looks pleasing to my eyes. The first thing I noticed that you have two highlights in the models eyes. I have read many articles about studio photography and a lot of photographers disliked more than one highlight in their subjects eyes. I personally like it in sometimes. Especially, if the two are not identical, like in this case where one is smaller then the other. It's like the ones they have in anime style cartoons.

Oh, and the WB is off at least on my screen I see a lot of blue. I opened up this image in PS and set the white point off of the models bra at right on the pic, where it shows thru the dress. Then all the colors popped out. The orange and the face got really nice tones.

......... she is just a tad cold. I would warm her skin tones just a tad...but all else is very nice.. Could be that BR..... it is a little much for my taste.

Keep posting, I always learn from you post.

Nice picture.

However, for a professional photgrapher and a person who says he teaches photography:

a. bad framing, no esthetic reason to crop her right arm and leave a dead space on her left side (right side for viewers)

b. white balance is off (as suggested by Victor and Dan), the shooter who comments on Pringles and ExpoDisks should have done better, or at least fix it in postprocessing..

c. For a studio shot where meticulous attention to detail is warranted, the shooter should have noticed that the bra straps and the left side of the bra under current lighting conditions are less than adequate. Get her to wear a strapless bra or not a bra at all. Don't worry if you are a conservative North American, the nipples won't show !

d. Double flash reflections in her eyes are VERY distracting and a no no for studio photography. There is no technical reason whatsoever to have 2 front sources in such a simple shot,

e. Don't make your subjects stand with an angle to the background as you did here. The background on her right side is different than the background on her left side, both in terms of focus and illumination. This is not pleasing for a studio shot.

To comment on Mr Clark Hampton's question, "quick portrait" probably refers to a "quicke" where the shooter does not want to be criticized for details. "Quick because I did not really have time to post it ... :-)" is meaningless, don't post it then, there are dozens of people who see you as a Photo God here, feel some responsibility.

You have some valid point in your reply but with the way you phrase it and the tone you use it look more like a vendetta, to bad your link does not provide us with (pictures) collaterals to subcribe to your toughts,,,, so I gonna ignore your post

Too bad, I'd rather see the nipples than the (straps or no nipples).
