Questions about the A7R II

after the first experience of using mac

now i only use PC and have zero issue there.

Basically now i will not upgrade the firmware of sony camera unless necessary.

i concur. if the notes show there is no benefit to my camera or lens than i simply dont do it.

i bricked my camera once updating and had to send it in for repairs. ever since then i'm paranoid of updating firmware.

in all the years I've had a nikon not once did I ever encounter a problem.

sonys firmware upgrade process is a complete fail. even if it works on a PC the whole process is still a fail, so many steps to do.

what is the firmware improvement and how often?

fujifilm firmware upgrade feature list can fill a A4 paper, some sony firmware is a single line.

Lets face it. Of the four camera systems I've owned, Sony, Canon, Nikon, and Fuji, the Sony approach to firmware upgrades is the weakest and most problematic approach.

While I haven't bricked my A7, A7R, A7II or A6000 I've had firmware upgrades fail on everyone of them and had to retry the process several times. On the other three vendors, that use memory card upgrades I've never had a failure. That includes 4 Fuji bodies (and multiple lenses), 5 Canon's and 1 Nikon.

In this specific area Sony trails the other vendors in capability. I guess you can't be the best at everything.

Yes, Sony did it mostly right and only needed a tweak or two. I didn't know Fuji was so far off from the start. But it sounds like you love you Fuji.

I don't get the mac complaints. Mine have run smoothly without fail. But I know some have had bricked issues from both OS's.

The Mac complaints date from last fall where there was a major update to Mac OS that eliminated a driver needed for this Sony mirrorless firmware update. It took months for Sony to offer the driver online and in the interim, Mac updates to Sony mirrorless worked intermittently at best.
