Question about flash

I'm new to Fuji with the XT 10. I think I have most of it figured. It seems I cannot use the onboard flash when using the electronic shutter. Is there a way around this? I use aperture mode and single drive.The flash only seems to work in the auto mode which I don't use.

It probably is intentional that you are not allowed to do this as it would not work.-- Flash and electronic shutter is not a good combination (as the image is scanned from up to down, only part of the image would be illuminated.)

Turn off electronic shutter, and set mode dial to S, and it should work.

BTW, what is the reason you are using electronic shutter?

Only use the ES if there is absolutely no other possible alternative.

ES will never work with flash BTW - worth taking the time to read up on your new camera

I like no sound. However the quietest setting are ok.

You should only use it when the scene is simply too bright for anything else -- like a snow and sun kind of day...

Totally agree. To the OP... try using the ES under AC lighting that has a wave cycle and see if you like the results.

Nope.

The reason flash is disabled during electronic shutter is because of how the shutter data is read out: it's rolling shutter, one line at a time, and effectively lowers your sync speed to something unusably low. It would only be useful for flash photography if it did global readout of the whole sensor at the same time.

I have the Godox A1 smartphone trigger/flash. But my iPhone 5S, however, also does the rolling shutter readout, and so has a max. sync speed of 1/25s, so it's more or less useless for any fill flash photography in the sunshine.
