Have you noticed a decline in both areas lately? We have threads regarding favortie TV shows (which I participated in), which Harry Potter movie was better, pet peeves, social issues, multiple polls and every thing else that you can think of that has nothing to do with photography...let alone photography with a Sony digicam. In fact, this thread in itself is part of the problem that I am describing!

We have threads about "wonder twin powers" and this person is back and so forth. I remember not too long ago I could come out here and read many interesting threads about many different topics. That seems to be diminishing over time. Anyone else see it?

Bauerman,

As one of the "Wonder Twins" (the elder one ;-) repeats over and over, the forum moves in cycles. It ebbs and flows. I think we are in the midst of an ebbtide....LOL

Steve

FWIW, you're part of the soulution ;-)

The Forums most likely are evolving, don't worry about other posts, just try to make sure you contribute to the Quality type of posts. As a forum matures topics increase, possibly the posts could be placed in more of an appropriate forum. This post as you see could also be misplaced

By you placing this question in the Sony talk forum makes me think your asking the Sony crowd, and since I am a Sony camera owner, I am Answering you in the Sony Forum.

If you want to see off forum posting go to the United Devices web site and check out their Forums.

Thats all I gotta say about that..maybe :)

I guess there's been a lot of those. I suppose people are feeling more comfortable with the members aboard and want to get to know everyone on a more personal basis.

I still see a lot of the usual questions though.. such as "how do I use " and "where do I get ." And people try to help still so it's still there.

Personally, I'm not too sure what I want out of the forums some times. Sometimes it helps and is encouraging, but sometimes there's not much support and a lack in help. As much as I like to be a frequent contributor and a "regular" like Jim, Steve, and Eric to name a few... it's tough to do.

just happened to pop in today and saw this post. Yes I have noticed. I haven't come here much over the last couple months. Usually only last a few minutes when I do. The forum just doesn't hold my interest anymore. Might participate in the current challenge though.. I like the topic.

Are you sure the change is not in you? Perhaps you have learned enough, and asked enough questions, that many of the questions are pretty mundane.

It probably doesnt help matters that most of the northern hemisphere is in winter right now. I dont know about anyone else, but I am much less likely to go out in a pouring rain / snow storm and take pictures, than I am on a nice summer evening.

The weather may be havig an impact, but there may be other factors at work.

1) There are not so many new camera posts or speculation on the features of the upcoming models.

2) Most people have become familiar with their cameras. A lot of the questions about how to do this have already been asked. This means that people are probably using the search feature instead of posting the same question over and over.

3) Work related and other activities has kept me away from the forum from time to time. Others may have the same problem.

4) This same thing happend on the Oly forum. The core group became very familiar with each other and just started "chatting" to be social. This isn't a bad thing as long as it is kept under control.

You always have to have some fun threads.

With to my mind a good balance of aesthetic questions/discussions, technical ditto, and "personal" (OT) stuff. At least we're being spared most of the bargain hunting and technical flaw threads that bulked up the site just a few months back.

Too much TV show, favorite dance tune, etc would degrade the site, but a bit of it just makes the place friendlier.

And I really do think it's important to welcome new members and answer the same questions repeatedly; the search engine on this site has never been very good anyhow.

For the most part I can just ignore the off topic threads if I want, but I do agree that we are lacking content.

Its frustrating to wade through off topics and then when I find something interesting I have to wade through 47 "re:original topic" subjects!

Start your message in the subject, and use a sentence that identifies your point....PLEASE!

thanks to everyone who contributes!

Hmmmm....

I may agree that some of the "quality" has decreased, but as someone else said, that may be because I'm looking for newer breakthroughs, and don't always see it.

But I do think the OT threads are essential for building a solid online community. If we don't get to know each other, it's tough to keep interest. Also, re: the favorite movie post, that it 150 posts faster than about any I've seen lately. That leads me to think it was valuable post. And interestingly, I think they bring people out of "lurker" mode. It's a harmless way to post. My main reason for starting that post was for a distraction to all of us who were tired of the memory stick/camera complaints that were very prevalent at the time.

Otherwise, I see fewer posts, but I think that's because there hasn't been any recent "bad" or "good" news to talk aobut. We're kind of in limbo right now. Which I would say is a perfect time to hone our photography skills and get out there! :-)

But it's an interesting question/thought....
