Quote taken from "The new complete guide to wildlife photography" (don't laugh it's good reading for the metro bus :).

"...by the use of a stationary pellicle mirror that simultaneously transmits light to the film and to the viewfinder... ...the shortest electronic lag time --about 1/180 sec..."

Maybe we will see this on the 1DS???
Hi AS,

And that useful "rough impression" would become an even-more-useful
BETTER impression of the image if it were larger, and presented on
a high-res monitor or laptop.
Big applause, but I personally wouldn't like to carry a laptop as a
better preview monitor 8)=

But I can really imagine that some pro's would like or even do so...

Interesting Larry... it appears that you can express different
opinions but I cannot. GMAB.

I confess that I am not open to all ideas that come down the pike,
particularly when it is just piling up of features, just because
one can. I am more of the Leitz school, where simple excellence is
better.
John,

As is so-often the case with web-posts, it seems that your/my conversation is taking a turn from "the issue", to the posters. So I will withdraw from it, since we each seem to have pretty-much stated our case.

Regarding this last post of yours:

I certainly want you to be free to express any opinions you have, "different" from mine or not.

It is the characterization of the posts of others, (i.e. "silly"), and the ignoring of their attempts to point out what they see as actual potential merit of a feature (reducing their reasoning to "just because you can") that have caught my attention.

Re. the "simple" approach:

I have used manual-focus Minolta SRT-series SLR's for over 30 years, because they are simple, reliable, and a "clean'" uncluttered design. I agree there is much to be said for them, and for that approach, by Leitz or anyone else.

But they are not my only cameras. And I wouldn't want to suggest that all the features that my newer ones have are there just because they could-be.

This is a thread about modern, complicated, feature-laden cameras.

I don't think Thoureau (for example) would even be interested in taking part in it.

"Simplify" is AN approach. It is not the ONLY approach. I'm not sure it is a good-thing that we have been to the moon, ...but we wouldn't have done so by sitting around Walden Pond.

I don't see the need to denigrate the ideas of others by labeling their ideas with uncomplimentary terms.

It's not about not-expressing different opinions, ..it's about expressing them courteously.

Best wishes,

Larry
