Did you have to pay for the upgrade to version 2? I have the elite version and they want $70 to upgrade which seems excessive for 10 month old software.

They added a photo library and clear view plus. I think they have also refined the U point technology.

That doesn't seem excessive to me at all for significant upgrades. In fact, that seems like peanuts (a very good deal). Compare that to what you would pay for an upgraded camera or lens to improve your photos.

For reference Adobe Lightroom costs $9.99/mo every month from now until eternity as long as you wish to be able to edit your photos.

Then, the beauty of this type of upgrade model is that you can skip the upgrade if it's not useful to you. I don't see what the beef is here. That's a very reasonable upgrade price. The alternative model is what Adobe is doing which costs you a lot, lot more and continues to cost you forever as long as you want the ability to ever edit your images again.

My most used is an old version of Photoshop Elements. It doesn't do RAW so when I feel that I need to work with a RAW file I use the latest Nikon Capture NX-D software. NX-D is such a pain to use that I get better results from JPG files in Elements. In my work computer I have an occasion to do a quick edit so I use Irfanview and GIMP for that. Darktable is another program that I see discussed- I was going to try it but it won't run on my computer. There are a few commercial programs that are alternatives to Lightroom but I haven't found that any one of them is a recognized leader.

My main workflow starts with LR and PS. I use the following for additional specialized work:

• NIK Collection by DxO
• Photomatrix Pro: HDR work
• PTGui: Panorama stitching
• LRTimeLapse: exposure ramping and more for time-lapse sequences
• Sequator: astro stacking for noise reduction and star-light multiplication
• StarStaX: star trails stacking
• Helicon Focus: Focus stacker
• Nikon Capture NX-D: I keep this around, but haven't used it much. I probably would not install it on the next machine I build.
• A few others, mainly video related

Good point, I use the stand alone light room but will not subscribe to the monthly payment. I like light room but I am using dxo photo lab elite most of the time now and its very good at most things. I can always after processing in dxo export into light room for some things that are better.

I use several, which have already been mentioned by others. I only use Lightroom for organizing images.

One interesting software package is Raw Photo Processor 64, which can easily extract the raw data channels. This is useful for severely underexposed files if I want a monochrome image: I can get images with far less noise than if I convert from a fully processed image.

DXP PhotoLab 2.

Just purchased the latest version, in my eyes the best Raw converter for Nikon there is. Makes miracles out of my RAW's.

DXO ClearView Plus and Noise Reduction Prime alone is worth all the price, a hit!
