Problem with the AF-C on my Nex-5R (shakes like crazy)

Hi!

I think I have a problem with the AF-C (continuous auto focus) on my Nex-5R.

In the following videos i demonstrate what happens when I have AF-C activated and press the shutter button halfway down.

(In short, the AF behaves like crazy and won't lock on anything)

Is this normal behavior? In video no 2 I have just factory reset the camera and activated AF-C.

With AF-C off the camera behaves better, and with AF-C on it does not always display this behavior.

I can't view youtube videos at work, but my 5R seems to take about twice as long to lock onto something using AF-C vs AF-S. So I just usually leave it on AF-S all of the time.

It's normal behavior. It's the contrast auto focus detection pumping at the extremes of focus to try and ensure the shot it takes is in focus. I forget if this occurs with the 5r or the 6 as I know this happens with the 5n but AF-C is also the only way to get the camera to adjust exposure every shot in any burst mode.

Agreed, my NEX-5 does this. It looks like it never locks but in fact it's incredibly effective. Works great.

I cannot watch your videos right now. But I guess your focus object is static. This is normal for af-c which is better used for moving objects. I believe it's in the manual saying use af-s for static objects.

Since video doesn't use the PDAF, you'll get this pumping because the CDAF has to do that to maintain focus. Still shot mode doesn't do this with PDAF working.
