I'm not sure how else to describe this. I recently picked up a used a6500 and I've been having some fun with it, but I was shooting this morning, and when trying to change some settings, this notice popped up and it blocks many controls, including the four D-pad options and the C3/trash can button.

I can use C1 and C2, the Fn button, and the review button, along with the top and rear dials. Additionally, the focus mode icon is permanently orange. Has anybody encountered this? I was using the touch screen to touch and drag the AF point, but it shows up whether touch is on or off. Any help is appreciated!

I did a bunch of googling and didn't have any luck. The center button resolved it for me though! Thanks!

I have an A6500 running firmware v1.06. I think I know what's happening.

For 'Zone' and any of the 'Flexible' focus area options, the focus area can be placed anywhere in the frame.

When you switch to one of these movable focus areas, the camera needs to know where in the frame you want to put it. The user uses the up/down/left/right points on the rear Control Wheel to position the focus area. The Delete/C3 (trash) button can be used as a shortcut to center the focus area. The user then presses the Center Button to lock it in place.

Since you're using the "Display all info" LCD screen, you have to look in the viewfinder to position the focus area. Hence the message "Look in viewfinder to select focus point."
