Also, I just don't think that one should need to go through so many
steps to obtain acceptable flash results in most circumstances.
FEL off an 18% gray surface should be something you might need to
do occasionally, but not something that is required in order to get
acceptable flash results. And going through all of that takes more
time than waiting on the shutter lag with my G1 and 420ex, which
sort of negates one of the greatest things about the 300D: the
minimal shutter lag.
I'm sorry and apologize if I seemed insulting. It just seems to me
that people are awfully quick to blame the camera, to blame a flash
system that has consistently provided excellent results for me over
the years.
However, I should in all fairness mention that I actually prefer
straight TTL over E-TTL, but that's not available with DSLR's of
course.

People answering yes may wish to consider if they have all the
knowledge they need to get good flash exposures with the 300D.
