poll: did you have to return your G2 because of defects?

I recieved my Black G2 a couple weeks ago and I have shot over 300 pictures and no problems yet.
Hi Guys!
Now i can cast my vote - i just got my G2 two days ago and have
shot about 400 pix so far - i havent fully tested every thing yet
but so far very good - i am in photo heaven!!!!
Good luck to those of you who have had problems - hope they are
resolved very soon!
this poll is only intended to give those of us an IDEA of what
G2 users are experiencing when they receive their cameras.

I have a feeling, however, that those of us who have had problems
are the most likely to respond - - to level the playing field, if
you have not had problems, like me, drop a note - let your vote be
counted!!
this truly is a great camera!

It might be nice to know.
Thanks in advance for your participation!
Exchanged it with a camera just down the line from it (the serial
numbers were very close) and no problems at all.
Well, almost 1 1/2 years after - my G2 is exhibiting the same problems. When in view mode it'll only zoom in on my pics. Also, in manual mode I can't change the settings (stuck on 1/200 sec and 2.something) and it seems I can't even fire.

How long is a regular G2 warranty period? (I'm glad I bought it through my friend's AmEx card - 1 extra year of warranty...)

Self-selecting responders. There is no statistical value to these
answers.
There would also be no statistical value to this thread either - you are going to get a much higher percentage of "squeaky wheels" with a forum thread like this. There are a majority of G2 users that never come to Dpreview - their cameras work fine and they use them.

It's akin to a TV local news call-in poll, bad sampling.

Have had mine for close to two years and taken well over 5,000 pics (lost count as I may have reset counter a few times accidentally in beginning). No hiccups either as far as essential camera operations are concerned. Just the infamous G2 crack and scratched LCD. Got over both eventually. Still going strong.
I've had my G2 for 9 months and 3500 pictures...lots of on & off,
too. Not a single hiccup.

Auto shut off didn't work from the beginning, but it wasn't a big deal to hit the shutter button when I was ready to shoot so I didn't bother with it. There was also a hair inside the lens from the get go.

After about 11 months, the lcd began shutting off if it was flipped out and pressed back against the camera. The camera was still taking great pics, but I sent the camera in for repair.

It came back barely working at all. The pics were a horrible mess of colors and shapes... barely recognizable as anything. I sent it back for a second time.

After being without my camera for a LONG time, I finally got it back. The auto shut off never was fixed. The lens was replaced. The focus seems to be off now compared to pre-fix. Sometimes the quality of the shots is really lacking too. I'm just not willing to let them try to "fix" it again.

A brief history of my G2....

First time into canon was for the cracked case issue, and a crack in the plastic near the tripod mount. Fortunately this was all part of the same piece of plastic.

The second issue was that my 420ex flash would not fire sometimes, and at other times at full power (with no pre-flash) regardless of camera mode.

The first time canon claimed to have changed the main PCB - the camera worked for a day then same failure appeared.

Returned camera to canon again, and this time they replaced the entire top assembly - flash mount included.

I personally suspect that the flash mount had dry-joint connections to the flash controlling / E-TTL comms circuit.

All this has been covered under warranty, and apart from the small frustration value, I am very happy with this camera.

I've had no problems at all. Bought mine nearly a year ago.
