got a friend over in Hawaii (met on the net a few years back) that
has just picked up a new 10D (came from a sony 707) and is at this
time using a 50mm f/1.4.
needles to say he is in awe, but wants a wider zoom.
i told him i'd post here so i hope there will be some responses.....

Since my post yesterday, I had a chance today to shed some more light on the matter. Here it is and I think this one shows much more sharpness and clarity. What do you think? ( and thanks for your help on this subject Michael L.):

Of course I posted the unprocessed original for you to see, and of course every image needs lots of postprocessing to be at its best - especially as all in-camera parameters are set to zero. I have done a lot of work in Photoshop 7 to see how good they can get, and I don't know how much sharpening you have applied, but it's quite a bit more than I prefer not to get that 'digital' look.

The fact remains that all the pics (originals) I've seen on the net are sharper than mine. And I wouldn't like to see the results from this lens mounted on a 1Ds. The soft corners that I get would end up halfway to the center on that camera.

Anyway, I'm going out now to shoot some more test pics and Monday morning I'll take the camera with the lens (and my horrible 70-200 f/4) over to Canon service again.
