I'm not sure there is much you can do until Canon releases the results of their investigation. Although some people have reported getting a good one after returning the first.

I don't know, there appears to be good ones out there. Some people report no trouble at all.

My camera works very good most of the time, but servo focus in good lighting is just not that great. The f5.6 aperture makes it a little harder to see but you can still see it when going through sets of photos.

Last year a trip down Hwy-1 (starting from Gilroy) got canceled because of brush fires in LA; hope you are not having to deal with that sort of situation. Yet another trip last year to the northwest part of Arizona was canceled because of Forrest fires. My luck hasn't been running too good lately (of course the trees are doing worse); hope you fare better than me.

SEARCHING FOR A BETTER SELF PORTRAIT

There are a number of forrest fires in NW Montana, some are huge. Hot temps and low humidity were making them worse. In some of the areas I travelled through the smoke was pretty bad. Enough to make your lungs hurt and leave ashes on everything. Some times the wind would help to push smoke out of the area I was in, but later it would change again and fill up with smoke.

It's a beautiful area up there, and a shame the fires end up destroying some big chunks of it.

Awesome shots Gary,

So clear and perfectly exposed. Did you use single frame shooting or multi-frame burst shooting? Great timing no matter how you shot it, though.

I love the first and third ones with the extended claws.

You should have them printed in large format, framed and hang them on the wall. Beautiful shots.
