orb theory

i didn't know that the sigma sd9 'fix' for the FUJIFILM TM ORB (can't deny it looks exactly the same) makes the image look like crap.

That's informative to me because now i know there's a 90% chance i'll avoid the FW upgrade, fat chance FUJIFILM really has a fix for blooming through FW change.

so, in spite of this thread rehashing old news for u, it had some news for me, in the course of the discussion. such is the internet, information gets repeated :p

and no i wasn't really aware the Nikon V1 would also bloom on long exposures like the factory shot. kinda interesting. I wonder if CMOS generally blooms more than CCD

I saw your images, I see no orbs.

Here is the Sigma SD9 review with orbs
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sigmasd9/page16.asp

Do the orbs look similar now?

Here is the SD10
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sigmasd10/page14.asp

Here are the orbs after Sigma tried to fix them. The orbs is replaced by a wobbly edged disc that is likely much smaller than the orbs generated in the SD9. You will note night shot looks decidedly worse (other than the orb of course). Let's hope the X10/X-S1 do not suffer the same fate/compromise.

Apologies if my lack of photographic knowledge is catching.
Well done! And well.....its done for us. I wishfully hope that fuji is working very hard in doing better than sigma, thus the delay in delivering the firmware.

Here's a little clearer view of what the orbs look like in raw mode:

It's a two frame animated GIF cropped from the same coordinates on both images because, according to dcraw, the .raf files actually contain two separate raw images. I set dcraw to not demosaic the images, which is why it's gray scale. The source is from Imaging Resource, http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/X10/X10LL001003.HTM , ISO 100, 1.3 second exposure.

Perfectly round in RAW and its animated to . :D

I agree with others on this forum that say if you have 'Orbs' send the camera back to Fuji

The firmware update was to rectify the 'Orb' so it should be classed as a fault

If this fault isnt rectified then you are entitled your money back

Most of us bought our cameras through a dealer, not directly through Fuji.

Depending on what part of the world you are in the dealer has the right not to take it back. The best he can do is ask you to get it repaired under warranty.

As far as I know Fuji has no mechanism to give you back the wholesale price + the dealer's profit margin through its service department. At least where I live.

Like ive said in another thread......Can you not keep this 'Orb' issue to ONE thread?

If you all rang fuji to complain they would do more

This is an equipment discussion forum. Not a "Look at my pretty pictures" forum. YOU can make as many new threads as you like. There are already lots of subjectless picture threads you seem to have no complaint about.

The important thing is that anyone coming here is informed.

I can't understand why anyone except for Fuji would not want people informed.

Your comment reminds me of the guy who complained that DPReview should NOT have written their front page article, and should not keep complaining about orbs.

Youve heard 'When You Can't See The Woods For The Trees'? well its like that on this forum orb, orb, orb, orb

Duplicated threads are a pain in the ass

Not as much as F U cameras.

If you're going to complain about duplicated threads, be an equal opportunity complainer.
