One problem with carrying multiple mounts

We all must have had similar experiences - off for a long weekend serious camera session: one camera, spare battery, the right lenses and wrong battery charger. Might work.

At $100 a pop for my Fotodiox + several EF lenses this stops making sense very quickly. I could possibly see this for manual lenses if you have a lot of different mounts.... I like to stick to FD for my manual stuff.

No worries- today's shoot was very inconsequential. Lesson definitely learned :-D

Benefits of having separate adapter for each lens, always mounted on the lens.

I'm not buying a Voigtlander VM-E for each lens, that would be insanely expensive.

Thin adapters like m42 or Nikon F to EF was my much preferred to have one for each lens, especially when I was mixing brands, for example a Nikkor 24/2.8, a OM 50/1.4, and a Super Takumar 85/1.9, the Nikkor was always a pain in the butt because the mount is backasswards from everyone else's mount.

Six out of eight different brands of LTM M39 to M4/3 lens adapters worked fine.

Surprisingly the cheapest were among those correctly made - at AUD$3.40 each shipped in bulk they were approximately 1/3 the price of LTM M39 to LM adapters alone - still requiring LM to M4/3 adapters to complete the link.

And the direct adapters were also adjustable so that the lens references could be made perfect.

All this made this particular adapter type perfect for attachment to each LTM M39 lens.

No digital camera is made oem with a LTM M39 mount.

The more reason to use a single adapter, keep it on the camera and only use lenses that fit that adapter's front side. The lenses can have that mount as originals or get that mount by conversion or adaption. Reduces weight as well.

Screw-mount lens changes are a PITA, and an M39/M43 adapter and an M43 rear cap (or M42/EF and EF rear cap*) are better for us lazy people.

* Take care in attaching cheap rear caps to cheap chipped adapters - I've had a couple jam on the adapter grrr

And I bought 6 LTM to M-mount adapters and 6 generic M-mount caps, all the caps are loose on the adapters... Grrrr.

So you didn't need to buy a strap wrench

I made up a one-sentence checklist. It is designed to make it easy to make sure I have everything.

"Bring Me That Awesome Camera Lens, Gus!"

Bring - Batteries (yep, I've forgotten spare batteries).

Me - Memory card (forgot that a time or two too).

That - Tripod / Monopod / Other camera support. I suppose I could use "My" instead of "That" when using a monopod, but I get the point either way.

Awesome - Adapter...or three. I am up to three different mounts now.

Camera - Yes, I am capable of leaving for a photo walk when the camera is on the kitchen table. Don't ask me how I know I can do this.

Lens - This too. The one lens I was hoping to use was on the kitchen table.

Gus - GPS (because I like to geolocate my photos in bulk). I added this when I discovered (guess how) that I could forget the GPS even when using the checklist. I don't know who Gus is, but he's never brought me my awesome camera lens...unless he's the delivery driver.

Canon EF mount should work well as the in-between connector for mirrorless cameras and lenses from other brands, vintage lenses included. Chip height and adapter depth asks for good measurements, caps are no issue in my experience. For a macro DIY project I removed an EF mount from an analogue camera, that adapter makes chip position control easier too.

At least you got good use out of that 50/1.4. There's a lot to be said for sticking to one lens.

I have yet to go through the shots, but yea, I liked what I was seeing.

I call it "camera meltdown" usually when we are going away for a few days.

Just what gear and accessories do I need. All in head - too stupid to have a prepared list - other half all ready and packed a week in advance an me trying desperately to pack a camera bag (or three) without forgetting any critical part of it.

Now I have smaller camera bodies bag(s) are much smaller and I figured out a long time back that "you" keep a special going away bag with a spare charger, cables, power board, etc for every conceivable current camera-extras need. Just pick up that bag and much of the last minute sourcing is covered. I am working on which lenses to pre-select. Now usually in some sort of waking nightmare before I get up.

The smart money only have three lenses and this is all that they need. But surely this takes all the fun out of deciding what to take on a trip?

You pretty much only need one, and then adapt your other mounts to M-mount. Those adapters are much cheaper.
