It looks like the transfer of the old threads to the new forum has some systemic failures.

I was looking at some old threads in the new forum format and noticed many posts where the author's text is lost but a quote from another post still remains. For example in the thread below, I have a post with multiple likes and no content (except for the quote from another post). There are also posts by users blue_skies and sjredo which now lack the original content.

The text you quoted, that's not the original text? It looks like they just posted it as normal.

I assume you are talking about my post here. I pasted the URL of the thread in my post (for reference). It is now displayed as if quoting the first post in the thread. If you click on that quote and go to the original thread, you will see the issue. I've seen several posts in different threads from different years with the same issue, hence my use of "systemic".

Today I came across the same failure in a recent thread. The post #12 in the thread has no visible content written by the poster. The reply (#13) to the post quotes #12 and shows some of the originally posted content. I'm pasting the URL for #12 here. It will probably show as the actual post #12.

I think the problem is that during the conversion of the threads only the original subject title of the original post was saved. If people who replied changed the subject line (something very very common in the old threaded system), all those changes subject lines have been lost. Many posters were writing a short reply in the subject line and leaving the body of the post empty. For example just saying "Thank you for the comments n/t".

Another more common use of changed subject line was when sharing photos for example in a "Weekly Wildlife Thread". Every user responding to the original poster would change the subject line to give a description of what is being shared. Now with the nested thread subject lines missing everything is bundled under the original "Weekly Wildlife Thread" title and if posters were relying only on the changed subject line to describe the shared photos - that information is lost.

I hope there is a way to restore the nested subject lines as part of the body of the posts in the new system but maybe too late at this point.

You are right. I hadn't noticed. Well, an even bigger mess then, with the old threads.
