Official firmware is up

Pentax makes considerably more profit in the DSLR area than point and shoot. Still a funny comment though.

Remember, the light at the end of the tunnel could be another train.

hopefully they can correct this completly in a firmeware update. It is the only issue I have to complain about this camera.
Now I got it and installed it. It worked just fine.

I did a quick&dirty test shot just before the update and after it -
just pointing the camera to the ceiling of my room. Both were
in-camera JPG, quality.

The image after the update looks definitely a bit brighter. Still
with some traces of high ISO banding. Probably I'm seeing ghosts
but I have the impression that it is a bit less than it was before.
Overall image quality of course is the same as before.

Thomas

The Japanese are the invention of Just-in-time (JIT) logistics.
Maybe they thought it was not just the right time.

Or maybe there was such a rush for the downloading that we were all
preventing their bread-and-butter customers from downloading their
Optio firmware.

By the way, I really want an Optio to keep in my shirt pocked when
I don't have my dSLR with me - which one should I get (I need
something to think about while I'm waiting for a re-posting of the
firmware and I can't face the prospect of reading all the specs on
the Optios while I'm still trying to get through the table of
contents of my K10 manual)
I just checked out the website. They have posted two new cameras, the Optio T30 and Optio M30.

You should check them out. Very thin with lots of new features and a 3 inch screen. One of them also lets you write on the pictures with an included stylus.

We don't want to be kicked of the forum for discussing the wrong thing, but I will risk a brief comment: XP doesn't freeze every five minutes like the earlier versions you mention. Neither did NT which I have on my server, but I am really getting a bit tired of spending a large segment of my working day troubleshooting all kinds of glitches that really should have been fixed before the operating system was released and waiting for my computer to automatically upload patches that should have been there in the first place and deleting all kinds of sh* ware that nobody asked for, waiting for Trend to scan my computer for things that shouldn't be there, drumming my fingers until my nails are gone while Photoshop starts up ... (did I forget anything? probably only a few hundred things, but you get the picture - there goes Trend telling me that someone is trying to access my computer ... sorry got to respond). I wish that Bill Gates would sell out and give all all his money to charity so that someone else - Linux, maybe? - could take over the market and make the world a better place.

I'm glad you told me- now when my XP laptop freezes, I'll remember to curse Dell instead of MS. good to know ;)

Frank

ps- honestly, 2 different freezes- reboots to blue SOD coming out of hibernate if I hibernate too many times without fully shutting down, and total lock-up every now and then (intact screen image) when moving too fast with a file save dialog box open.

Pentax is a joke of a company.
Maybe not as much of a joke as some of the users like yourself.
Oh, this builds so much confidence in the company.
Seriouisly, if this big functional upgrade firmware does not build your confidence (can you remember the last time this type of upgrade happen for ANY camera?), if a few hours delay bothers you more (someone releases the firmware 2 hours ahead of the official embargo time; and obviously Pentax was monitoring this site), please look elsewhere.

well I have just upgraded my firmware using the version online, worked fine and just tested the new ISO control via OK and the front wheel, excellent feature and will save aload of fiddling

Is it the same file that was there before, do you think, or have
they substituted a new one?
The delivery/packaging differs but the .bin file is byte for byte identical with the pre-release. No surprise really.

I still want Linux to succeed, tho, just because it is a no-sh*t user-oriented OS which doesn't kowtow to the [MP~RI]AA.
