Welcome to NikonWorld, the next challenge hasn't officially
been announced yet, just keep your eyes open for a thread
called " Challenge-6 SUBMIT ".
You will need a online acct to upload your picture on the web.
A lot of people use PBase.com for that.
Just read the rules when they are posted and Welcome Aboard..

Hi all

I am new to this forum as I just purchased my first Nikon digitl

Where do I post my photo, how many photos are allowed, when does
the callenge start and end...etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Hi, I've only been a member since Oct. 11th.....this forum is great BTW.

Must the Challenge submissions be taken after the challenge starts? I thought I'd read that but noticed that an entry in C5 was not. Does it differ in each challenge or what?

Thanks,

I thought I'd read that but noticed that an entry in C5 was not.
Does it differ in each challenge or what?
Greetings Midnight2:
The starting date for valid entries will be the 18th of October (Friday).

The way it works is, the start date of 'submissions' from the previous challenge is the date that photos for the following challenge can be taken.
I hope this helps....

Hi Doug,
thanks for putting so much effort into the challenge and your "theme".

Question: Faces of the world, in the first announcment you mention faces could be a number of things, and in this one you seem to be focusing on people's faces, I am sure when the challenge is officialy out it will be clear but are we suppose to submit people, or can we take faces to be more subjective? Thanks, trying to work out if I will be submitting to the challenge this time, the one in progress has been shall we say "interesting" without going into detail.
Thanks again for the effort and detail you have put into this.

Garry

Sid;
I don't want this "little" thing I do to get blown out of
proportion... It is a computer tracking system we have developed
for my companies. We track customers, likes, wants, dislikes
geographical locations, incomes ETC. This allows our R&D department
to develop products that have a high success ratio. (I hope)
All I did was take the principals of that system and applied it to
our challenges.... In the hopes of figuring out what our forum
community likes and why they vote like they do. I've been doing it
since Challenge #1 and the results are still inconclusive at this
time... I guess that is a code word for... (If I told you I would
have to kill you...) HA-HA

Lol Doug, using your system it looks like you'll be able to take the "perfect" voting entry by challenge #10.

Greetings Gary:

I'm still have the opinion that faces could be "many different things"... I'm sorry I did not directly address that issue in this thread. I guess I'm just assuming that most entrants will focus more on people, compared to other types of faces. This assumption, might be completely Out To Lunch… "but that's my assumption"...
Sorry if this has caused any confusion.

I don't think that "will ever happen"

Even if I could figure out what the perfect shot would be... (which I can't). I'm not good enough with a camera to deliver the goods anyway. For me it has been fun just playing with it.

Hi Eddie,

Yes this next Challenge is 'Faces of the world', and entries will open within about 48 hours.

If you would like to have a look at the last 5 Challenges and the entries, chat threads, etc... have a look at the Challenge home page...

Greetings All;
Challenge #6 is coming soon and I felt it was important to post a
note that layouts the rules and context of the challenge.
Incase some of you don’t know, challenge #6 will be “Faces of the
World” this title has been chosen because of the wide geographical
representation we have at this forum. According to my figures we
had 23 different countries represented in Challenge #4 and I think
that is very much a testament not just to our common interest but
also to the technology that we have all embraced.
Challenge #6 will allow us to focus our attention on “FACES” that
we see in our part of the world and with luck we will see some of
the best entries yet. Because the focus will be on people and
faces, I’m trying my best to keep the playing field as level as
possible. I mention this because we all know that this is a very
diverse group and the skill level is equally as diverse. This
being said, I feel that it is important to place some additional
rules on the challenge that will allow a wider segment of our group
to partake. I’m hoping that these rules will allow people not feel
threatened by the fact that there are people here who have
forgotten more than most of us will ever know.
The first additional rule will be that “No Flash” or “Studio Light
Set-Ups” will be allowed. It is hoped that this will allow people
who might be equipment deprived to still feel that they could
partake. It will also force the photographer to think about his or
her light before they take the shot. I have received comments that
the flash restriction will force people to shoot outdoors… I don’t
agree with this assessment, as everyone has access to natural light
both indoors and out doors.
Because the intent of the Challenge is to focus of “Faces”, the
issue of backgrounds and candid type shot’s come into my thought
process. In my mind, the entrants will be judged mostly on the face
that they can capture and the lighting that they were able to get.
This being said, I feel that we need to allow for the manipulate
backgrounds if they feel they need to. I’m sure none of us are
interested in seeing “Granny” pasted in front of the Empire State
Building... So what I would like to propose is that we will have
the ability to Blackout of Blur a given background on a shot. But
not paste our subject on to a completely different background. This
will allow for more candid type shot’s that sometimes do not have a
background that are very pleasing to the overall shot.
I recognize that allowing this type of manipulation takes away from
the “purest” form of composing and taking a photograph. But I
happen to be of the school that taking a photograph is only one
step in getting a really good end product. The second part is
editing the image in either a darkroom or computer. I know there
are some here who do not like the thought of manipulating a
photograph in programs like PhotoShop. But to me manipulation of
photos has been iatrical part of the craft for many years… we just
do it now in a computer...
So to recap… Challenge #6 will allow entrants to Blackout or Blur
backgrounds but will not allow for the pasting in of secondary
backdrops or background. All entrants MUST use natural light only
and no studio set-ups will be allowed.
In closing, I’m being told that a “New” voting system will come
into being on the challenge (1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place) so
keep that in mind as we get through the entry stage and go to the
voting stage.

I will not be entering the next challenge, I may enter again in the future but the main reason for me entering was to get serious contructive critisim on my work and see the views from a wide audience, with the lack of explaination in the voting system I do not feel that I am getting out enough for what I put in. It is fun, and I may enter again just for the fun factor, but I did not enjoy the harsh attitude from some members. I guess I may have taken it too seriously, oh well :)
Good luck all, and keep taking great pictures.
