Notebook Screen...Is Glossy Bad? For PS

No, not sure how to check to see if account has been hijacked.

That's some story about the 8k PayPal suck. Hopefully on EBAY there is some info on hijacking.

I'll also call Dell.

Thanks,

Hollie
I've noticed their feedback too.. still I can't help but wondering
what the catch is. I called Dell a few months ago about the Ebay
sellers and they said they'd honor the warranty like if I bought it
from them..

I'm sure you know how to look if the feedback was earned selling
Dell's or cheap items from Hong Kong.. and how to check if the
account has been hijacked. I lost 8k thanks to Paypal charging
back a payment they made into my account after someone hijacked the
guys Ebay and Paypal account. The money sat in my account for a
week before I shipped because I was out of town, and on the 8th day
they sucked the 8k out of my account and said sorry. Dell would
never do that..

Anyway, let us know how it goes if you go that route..

I'd have the buyer call me and check the number of orgin, make sure it's not a blocked number.. call it back and see who's there the next day. Ask for their address and look it up in the yellow pages..

Ya, it really sucked. I couldn't believe they did that, Ebay was blaming Paypal and Paypal Ebay.. but they're both owned by the same people. I stopped doing any sort of Paypal transaction and try to stay away from Ebay if I can.

I know I'm being like this because I was burnt.. most people have positive experiences..

I checked feedback and many have bought these M90s and left feedback, I emailed a couple of them and asked if they got everything specified, I'm waiting for answers. I also contacted seller for more info and his location.

It's hard to argue with a Platinum power seller. I mean, how could they get that far with crappy product?

He also sold a lot of new Dell Inspirons and I checked that feedback.

On his site he says he has a deal with Dell to get wholesale product.

I'm tempted to do this since I had good luck buying this Toshiba laptop from EBAY. That warranty is what makes it.

The number of origin is located where? The back of the computer?

It sounds like a good seller. Soliciting feedback from buyers is a good idea.

I'd ask for a verify a phone number..

BKKSW

Surprisingly he sent me his phone number and told me to call. Most Power Sellers don't do that. So I'll call tomorrow. Another buyer of this unit from him said his was fine.

I put his phone number in Google and got a site from Indiana, a business that sells various things and has a miscellaneous for sale section. It looked like a small newspaper.

More tomorrow when I talk to him.

The next edition of my saga.....

I spoke with the seller, Chris, who is in Indiana. Turns out he just had some computers for sale on the Banner advertising site. He was very nice, I asked him how he got these so cheap, he said if he told me that he'd be giving away his secrets.

I asked if he put any memory in, he said he didn't, these are unopened boxes. The warranty is in his name and he will have to transfer it to me. That is different than my last EBAY new computer where I didn't have to do this, so somehow these 10 M90s went into his name.

He said I could return it if it was dead when I first tried to turn it on, he said that does happen. Otherwise if something goes wrong later I look to Dell.

Meanwhile I got an email from another buyer of the M90 from this seller, he said his was fine and everthing was according to specs.

So, I'm going to go for it. I can't find this high end M90 on the Dell Outlet.

Kind of scarey...

Hollie
I'm getting more curious how this will turn out..:)

BKKSW

Haven't ordered this yet, but probably will.

One guy who ordered this model wrote me that the Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7200 2.0 GHz with the 3500 Nvidia card is much slower than his friend's T7600 with a 2500 Nvidia card. He's talking about upgrading, anyone know how you would do that with Dell?

I've also been checking out Vista Business to see if I'll like it.

Hollie
Looks good?

Hollie
I can only find M90s with XP Pro so far on Dell Outlet that have
100 gig hd, WUGA screen, 2500 video card, etc.

On EBAY there is a Vista Business new, much less than I'd get from
Dell new with all the bells and whistles

So if I want Vista it looks like the EBAY deal is best. Anyone use
Vista Business?

Hollie

There is one from another power seller with Vista Ultimate, 7600 processor, 3500 Nvidia for $2,900.

There are lots with Win XP Pro.

Don't listen to that guy, no way you're seeing such a small difference in clock speed without a stop watch. Much more likely someone who would draw this conclusion doesn't have the experience to realize the difference is almost certainly software setup.. Perhaps he has a resource hog anti-virus checker, tons of memory resident utilities loading at start up, or his machine is infested with spyware.. He/she just doesn't have the knowledge to understand where the difference is coming from.. IF there is a difference.

For sure you want a Core 2 Duo. The Duo Core's aren't bad either, basically 10% slower on average than a Core 2 Duo and limited to a 32bit OS which most people are going to run anyway.. I seriously doubt for image processing you'll see any difference among the three video cards as all three are very good. If you do tons of video or 3d work then get the 2500 or 3500.. More importantly speed wise is the 7200rpm hard drives.. Oh, and make sure you get the Uxga 1920x1200 screen, from test reports there is a big difference.

You're going to love this machine.. Did you know it has 5 speakers including a subwoofer? It actually sounds very decent..

BKKSW

I hope I love this machine, I didn't think I'd be paying this much!

Do these get hot after using awhile? I heard some fast processor laptops get almost too hot to hold.

No, I don't do 3d work and just a little video. I'm thrilled to hear about the speakers, I was also planning to use this for all my music.

Doesn't Vista have to have a 64 bit processor?

When using an external monitor can you close the lid on the laptop? Or just with the dock?

Thanks for all your info, BKKSW, you have been more helpful than you know.

Mine is a 2.16 and it barely gets warm.. My D620 with the same CPU gets a lot warmer which makes sense since it's in a small package.

Vista is both 32 and 64.. Almost all programs are 32.. and many drivers aren't made yet for 64.. so unless you're going over 3gigs of ram I'd stay with the 32 for now.

Yes, you can set it up so the lid stays closed when running another monitor, and so it switches to an external keyboard/mouse.. The only thing is you'll need to lift the lid to turn it on/off.. I have one M90 I use like this and leave it running 24/7.. It's hooked up to a 21.5" 1600x1200 LCD via the DVI port and to a external keyboard. I haven't rebooted it in about a month..

The only thing not to like about this laptop is the size and weight.. If you can get over than then there's nothing better out there..

Enjoy

Sure.. but I caution you as someone who runs x64.. you'll have a much harder time finding drivers, programs, and anything else. Unless you're running 4gigs of RAM I really wouldn't go x64 on the laptop..

BKKSW

I got busy with my desktop breaking down so haven't yet ordered the M90. Meanwhile the one I was going to get is currently not on EBAY but one with a slightly faster processor and what appears to be a dynamite warranty is available for $150 more. It runs Vista Ultimate rather than Vista Business. It's also offered new from a Power Seller with 100% positive ratings, he is doing a lot more business than the first P. Seller I was considering.

Would you get Vista Ultimate? What about this warranty?

Here is the link to the M90: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170107217327&rd=1&rd=1

I have only one Vista machine at the moment and its the Ultimate version. I like the Ultimate features so much I ordered 4 more copies last night and they should be here soon. The multimedia capabilities of the M90 can really take advantage of Ultimate..

I bought 2 D620's for my sons and all they had to do to switch warranties is to fill out an on-line form. I'd imagine it would be the same for this one.

I think you'll love the system you linked.

Do you lose the 30 day money-back policy that Dell grants if you buy through an eBay reseller? For that matter, do you get that policy if you buy through Dell's Outlet?

I'd have a hard time spending that kind of money on a piece of gear sight unseen without having that safety net.

Dan

I don't know, I would think so but I'll check on the 30 day money back.

Yes, it's a bit scarey sight unseen, but then I've bought so many computer-esque devices I couldn't see because they weren't in the stores. It's the only computer I can find with the non-glossy, big screen and NVIDIA card. So many people like Dell for editing.

Don't know about the Outlet policy.

Got this answer to whether I would get Dell's money back policy:

"Sorry, we do not offer the same return policy as Dell but we do have the Dell 3 Yr Complete Care Warranty and we guarantee that it is not DOA."

What about Dell's Outlet... do they have the 30 day money back satisfaction guarantee? If so, I'd go that route instead... but that's just me. I'm particular about my gear... there are little things in a laptop, for instance, like where the touchpad is located (many HP's and Compaq's center the damn thing by the width of the laptop rather than position it under "home row" on the keyboard where it belongs... so you end up having the meat of your right hand under the touchpad causing the cursor to get repositioned while you try to type), that can drive you crazy... so I always want to either get behind the thing in a store for awhile or else test drive it under a satisfaction-guaranteed deal first. A warranty isn't the same thing.
