Not sure yet about my A300

Actually I need to do more shooting in your locations too :)) I could use some Hawaii, versus Pittsburgh.

Thanks for the input.

Sony shipped the lens tonight. Due on June 26.

And there was much rejoicing!!!!

Hey Duck44, definitely put Hawaii on your places to see in life. Here a few shots with the H5 ( wrong thread but kinda related I supose ) - warning - lots of pics.

Bob,

Excellent pictures. Makes me want to go back to Hawaii again. Were these pictures taken with your A300 + CZ 16-80 also? I like the result you are getting with this combo and wanted to ask which mode (A, P, M, Auto, etc...) you are using? Also, I know you do PP with your pictures and read that you use ACDSee on another thread and get some input on which version you were using. Thanks again for your assistance! :)

Hey PLudE, interestingly enough, I did not use the A300/cz combo for Hawaii - used the Sony H5. I posted these because Duck44 had referenced the H5 in this
thread and also referenced a comment I had made about Hawaii and thus....

I wish I had the A300 in Hawaii because there many times, I missed shots due to slow zooming an fellt I could have gotten more shots. Still happy with what I did get but craved more.

In regards to what I currently use, strictly the A300 with the CZ16-80. For 90% of my pp, I use ACDSee 9 Photo Manager. Whithin this program, I use the edit feature and primarily use:

1- Shadows/Highlights - within this function use the drop down and enhance. Sometimes use the sliders a bit but not often.

2- Sharpen - for non people shots, I use the Unsharp Maskt tab and enhance. Again sometimes use the slider. Sometimes this can be a little too much for some people shots in which case I ratchet down with slider or, use the Sharpen tab ( beside the Unmask Tab - makes sense when the program is open in front of you ) and click on enhance and slide up to 90 or 100.

Other than that, once in a blue moon use the Color function and play with saturation settings and the Noise reduction setting works very well.

Thats it, in less than a minute I can make my pics pop with this simple, non complicated process. Used these functions on some of the Hawaii pics.

I used the A300/cz16-80 for the pics in these threads. For many pics I use the Landscape setting, +1 sat, 0 contrast, +3 sharpness ( later is a pers pref, I like sharpness ). Landscape will give you the sharpest pics.

If the light is lower, I use sports/action setting to minimize shake. When the subject is nearer ( and especially if the light is not bright, I use Aperature priority and set to mid to high # aperature. I see many pics where the camera pics a lower aperature like and only a little part of the pic is in focus. Larger #aperature will help and with the A300, the traditional paradigms don't apply i.e. lower light, use lower aperature - the A300 is like have asa 100 to asa 3200 film at all times - not sure if I am making sense here.

For my wife I set camera to P mode because can manipulate the flash when need be in P mode with the landscape setting. For people shots, some like softer pics when taking pics of "non kids" so that age flaws are not nice and sharp and for this, portrait setting works well.

Pics in these threads used the A300/cz16-80 with ACDSee functions referenced above.

Bob,

Thank you for taking the time to explain your methods. I will definitely give it a try once I get home today. Again, Thank You! :)

a reply back like yours is the soul of these forums. If posters know that they actually helped someone, it validates the time they spent to post their responses ( just don't post a negative comment about a Sony DSLR :} ).

And, please excuse the spelling and sometime ramblings. I usually don't proof read ( always multitasking ) and my reply to you was made between interuptions whereby I started and stopped several times.

I just re-read my post and was aghast to see the spelling and disjointed structure.

Good Luck!
