Hi all,
I haven't had my camera for 2 months and it already suffered its first drop! I feel so f*cking stupid! I even had it in a Lowepro Photo Runner bag, but it seems the bag's padding isn't as thick as some of its bigger brothers. I was carrying a lot of bags out of the car and the Photo Runner was the last thing I picked up and when I started waking it slipped out of my fingers and fell 3 or 4 feet SMACK down on the parking lot! When I got inside I found that my Hoya Pro 1 UV filter was bent slightly in two places, and now it won't come off at all! What's worse is that the zoom on my 17-85 IS is stiff when it passes between 35 and 50mm. Not so bad when applying force but it's a little tight and jumpy when making finer adjustments. F*CK!
Now the good news is that I feel justified in spending $100 for a year's worth of Ritz Camera's ESP Service Plan on the lens so they will repair it even though it was my fault. The bad news is that they said the turnaround could be 8 FREAKIN WEEKS! I feel so depressed right now. BTW, if you paid Canon to fix the lens what is the typical cost and turnaround time? Just wondering if this warranty is worth it for the price I pay in turnaround time.
Thanks!
BTW- Is it true that if you buy a lens at B+H you have 14 days to return it if you "don't like it"? Just in case I need a lens for a weekend or something...
