Z9, Z8, Zf and Z6III.

I'll probably skip the Z6III as I'm more than covered by my Z9, Zf and Zfc, but Nikon has roared back with 4 of the best cameras on the market, all of which get upgrades via firmware tweaks.

I have sold my other cameras or given them away, except for my tiny Sony RX100 VI, which is still an insanely capable pocket camera.

I'd like to see a few fully manual lenses for the Zf and I expect we're a year or so away from a Z9II (which I'll grab!), but these 4 cameras are simply awesome. Folks looking for a lower cost body will likely see something new before the holidays.

Great time to be a Nikon shooter. Sorry for the positive rant!

Here's a pic of our Cavapoo puppy, Ruby, just to amp up the sweetness factor!

I have to say I'm really impressed as well. On average they managed to (nearly) catch up with the competition (in some aspects ahead, in some slightly behind in some on par) at a never before seen introduction price (at least in europe this is the world's first mid range 3k€ camera, a new record, well done). On top they invented new marketing terms (partially stacked sensor, everyone on the interwebs forums loves it) and since you mention the Zf they didn't even have to release any substantial firmware updates for this other great camera (unlike let's say the Z8/Z9), that's how good and issue free and feature complete this camera has been since release. Who needs those retrained nets for subject detection as this is clearly not relevant for the target group of the ZF anyway.

I'm sure the next generation models from Canon and Sony will be a joke or in your terms only a barely audible meow in comparison and we can rely without any worries on Zf and Z6 III performance for the next 5-6 years, as Nikon probably will not have to release a Z6 V any time sooner (we will get the Z6 IV with dual expeed 7 in between, but this will only bring 4k120p w/o crop, so no worries for stills shooters).

Yes - awesome stuff.

Does it really matter? As a consumer heavily invested in Nikon lenses, I would prefer Canon and Sony to continue to bring out great cameras and push Nikon for even better.

Nikon did outstandingly well with the release of the Z6iii!

everyone told me Nikon won't ever put the same AF system of what we have on the Z8 or Z9 on the Z6iii...and they did! they said it won't have a different sensor, granted its not larger than a 24MP sensor, but they made it semi stacked, so we can creep up in the higher ISO range when necessary. They also obviously took some of the "Red" tech and tossed it in this little guy, making its video features that much better.

I am VERY impressed, and I am 100% sold once I dug into the AF specs. this camera is an absolute perfect travel camera. My Z9 will be my perm wildlife beast, but this little guy will be with me on my travels no doubt.

well done Nikon, well done!

I don't know where that belief that stacked sensors have better ISO comes from.

They certainly do not. Only thing that is improved in stacked (or partially stacked) sensors is readout speed. That's it.

That allows faster burst rate, faster AF (since you can read the image faster), less rolling shutter... it's a much more versatile sensor than a non-stacked one. But being stacked doesn't give it additional dynamic range, or noise performance.

Nope, the timeline is way too short. The Z6 has the same kind of video codecs that the Z9 and Z8 have (which lead to the RED lawsuit as a result). The acquisition of RED probably made Nikon more confident about releasing this camera without any problems or delays due to legal issues, but it certainly didn't get any RED tech.
