I just got my CP5000 and followed the instructions to install the
Coolpix software After installing iview software first,
then the nikonview so I did that.when I plugged in the CPix
it mentioned some problem reading
the CP5000 there was a missing driver. Since I'm using OS8.6
Then I went and searched for the USB Mass Storage 1.3.5
driver update unfortunately it cause my computer to crash
twice and I would not risk a third time as it attempted to
delete the harddrive's contents.
Could any one help?! ;( (I'm very frustrated to encounter
this on the first try.)

I am somewhat curious as when I searched the forum
it seems Nikon doesn't write good software for transfer
of images from the camera...it seems that I may have
to resort to a card reader. Do card readers allow u to
read ibm microdrive cards? what type of media do they
accept? And would installing them require less hassle?

Linda, Forget Nikon View 4. Go to http://www.camerabits.com and try their Photo Mechanic free. It is much better, quicker and less frustrating. And it will work great on your Mac.

Linda,

You'll find that many of the more experienced digicam users on this forum do not use NikonView (or most any manufacturer's transfer software).

Rather, get a card reader and transfer your images from the card reader to your hard drive. The card reader will make your card look like it's just another removeable hard drive. Drag and Drop your photo files and info.txt file (if you've turned it on.

Depending on how new your Mac is, you may have a Firewire port. They're faster than anything else right now and FireWire card readers are becoming easy to find. bhphoto.com has the Lexar Firewire reader at a very good price... $50.00! OTOH, good USB readers can be found in the $20.00 - 30.00 range.

Remember, when you've completed your transfer, reformat the card on the camera. This will get rid of your old files and give your card a "fresh" start.

Good luck... Jim
