Hi

Could someone please help advise me on the basic steps I need to go through in setting up an NEX-7 with HVL-F20AM and HVL-F56AM flashes?

I can trigger the 56 with the 20, but neither flash seems to be synching with the shutter..

Thanks in advance!

All you need to do is put the 56 on the camera and select wireless flash for the camera's flash mode. With the 56 on depress the shutter button half way and all of the settings will be transferred to the 56. Now you can take the flash off and the red light on the front of the flash should be blinking. Mount the 20 on the camera and you should be good to go. Regarding the 56 it'll act as a regular flash when mounted on the camera and as wireless when not on the camera without changing the flash's settings (as long as camera settings are changes accordingly - it just knows what to do...

Thanks - when I put the 20 on the NEX-7 alone it doesn't seem to work. It flashes once, but I still get a dark image. Any ideas what I need to change? The NEX-7 is set to fill and flash compensation is at zero.

Thanks for the advice! Actually I just powered down the camera, removed and reattached the F20 flash and it worked fine - could have been a bug? Both flashes now seem to be triggering and synching just fine. :-)

Are you sure about that? The DiMAGE A2's pop up flash could address all four channels of the 56AM. Mounting the remote 56AM on the camera told the A2 which wireless channel the external flash was set to.

With the NEX-7 and 20AM triggering the 56AM, you can only use channel 1.
