New Version of Bibble is Out

The new update has not been officially released as yet. There is a test version of 3.01 available for download on the website.

I placed it up to test with a broader base of folks that my testing group. If all goes well it will be official in a few days.

More details can be found at:

(And AFAIK, the compressed .nef issue is solved)

I have not had a chance to check it out yet, but those who have
please post the result.

I am specifically interested in whether the D1h compressed NEF is
now working in the Win98 environment.

Thanks.

James

Eric,

Sorry for any misunderstanding (I am just so excited) and THANKS for the D1h deal.

I have heard of Bibble and was wondering how it might help me. I use a D1 in a studio for product shots and on location occasionally. Thanks. PatiO.

The color fringing and rainbowing issue has been fixed in 3.01
Good job Eric.

On the not so good side the artifacts in wood grains are still there, and still no numbers in the curve window.

If you check some of the previous Bibble messages, you should get a basic understanding of how and what Bibble can do for you... I can only add a watch out on Bibble service. I am very happy with the batch processing that Bibble does for me (Nefs to Tiffs or JPEGs from my D1x))
The Bibble service is a real watch out however.
I bought Bibble in April after testing the free download for a few days.

Without going into all the hassle details, here is a summary of my experience since then:
I requested the free upgrade code ( the new version came out in May)
It did NOT work.
I sent 4 emails_ once a week requesting help and never got a response back.

I got a message 30 days later on Bibble that my 'trial' ended (even though I had purchased it and applied the code they sent me)
Again no repsonse to my emails

I deleted Bibble and bought it again on the bibble site, getting the upgrade ( I like the product!) and sent yet another email explaining that I would cancel the second payment. Still no response from Bibble.

I have about 3000 photos from an African safari taken on my D1x using the nef file option...Bibble works great. The service/response is non existant so watch out if you have problems like I did...

Ken, as far as I know, all such issues have been resolved. If you are still having a payment crredit issue, please email me the details and I'll get it sorted out.

Wow!

I hadn't expected that the fringing change would satisfy you doyle...I'm glad It has.

The curve window needs more work to allow full my the numbers use and it is on my todo list.

Once things settled down, I will again try and look into your wood grains.

I just sent you an email and repeated my support for your product on the other thread (FLY BY NIGHT). I look forward to hearing from you...

I had a pleasant experience of Bibble service.

When I received the free update code a few weeks ago, it didn't work. After a few exchange of emails within a few hours Eric sorted out that the hyphen in my name was the culprit and sent me a code that works.

Hi Eric, I first want to say thanks for making Bibble available. I have read a lot of negative comments and complaints but there are many of us that appreciate your efforts in providing an alternative to Nikon Capture. I have seen a lot of improvements in Bibble 2002 and with this test version things are looking better. I am curious though in what happened to the speed in processing of the NEF. In version 3.00a I was impressed in the speed but with 3.01 its seems more like version 2.99 but a little faster. Another thing I have noticed in the test version is when I try to open a ".bih" settings file that was save in version 3.00a, it makes the test version crash. Also, did you alter the D1x profile? In 3.00a, I had to adjust the color a little but with this test version, its right on the money. Some other minor issues that bug me has to do with the constant live processing. I tend to stay away from the Bibble browser since it takes so long to load the NEF thumbnails. It would be great to have an option to turn that on and off. Also regarding the thumbnails, it would be nice to see the ability to save the processed thumbnails to the same folder as the original nef's instead of in the Bibble folder. Please bring back the right mouse click + - magnify. That is one option that I really miss and I think a lot of others do too. One other feature would be to have a magnifier that is like the one in Digital Pro. I dislike having to wait for the image to reprocess every time I magnify or reposition the image. Other than that, Bibble is a great asset to have...

The problem has always been I have to satisify my customers. True I have been after you for the last 10 month but that is the reason why.

Don't forget about that white lines issuse in MacBibble. That is the version I am waiting to purchase as I am hoping to eleminate Windows as much as possible now that most tools are available for OS X.

One question, what are the K values assocated with + and - changes in the white balance setting.
I hadn't expected that the fringing change would satisfy you

K's should be ths ame as listed in teh manual for the camera. I have to hook the display of them back up. I also hope to add a linear slider for selection of K.

I still see window update issues and had a memory crash on a 256MB system.

Windows is just plain a stupid OS with thousands of DLL files. Who knows what conflicts one DLL has with another and what DLL got overwritten or conflects created with some other DLL from last software install.

Two pieces of advise with Windows problems. First; if your using 2000 or XP change the compatibility mode. Try different ones and see if that might fix your problem. Second; reformat your hard drive, install Windows and install only the software you really really need.

So Eric and Nikon I am begging for those OS X version. Actually in defense of Eric he has had MacBibble for OS X out for a while. It just needs a little work with the white lines problem and then with using dual processors on OS X it should be a hell of a program.

Anybody know if Nikon Capture 3 will support dual processors.

Are you kidding? Now there's a real practical solution (sarcasm)! On the contrary, programs developed should work WITH Windows, not the other way around.

Thom, can you please email me more details on your window update issues. [email protected]

256M is potentially to litle ram for doing D1X images at full resolution depending on what else is going on in your system.

Ok, what is your solution when a Windows system becomes corrupt and some software will no longer run or you get errors. And, no amount of uninstalling (deleateing from the registry as well) and installing helps. And, in the case of a repair to the OS not fixing the problem.

I agree but that is not the real world of Windows. That is the main reason I do as little as I have to with Windows. I have real work to do and I don't particularly care to spend my time tinker with an operating system. For those that choose to use Windows for whatever reasons I was only passing along my experiences with it. All OS s have their good points and bad points depending on your requirements and you likes and dislikes so lets not start a platform war here. Further if you don’t have any real work experience with other OS s then you really can’t compare them.

Your solution (reformatting & reinstalling Windows) used to be a common thing to do when Win95 first came out. A very tedious job. I have not had any problems with WinXP and I have a LOT of software on my machines. If one program causes problems, I feel it's the program, not the OS. To answer your question, my "solution" would then be NOT to use that program! K.
