It is not a big surprise to me:-)
Because I knew this was coming for several weeks now.
But "people" asked me to keep my mouth “shut”:-))
It was difficult but I kept my promise...:-)

Anything else out there that might be of interest to this community?

Also have you tried PrintFix? Any opinion as to the quality of profiles it creates?

It really looks pretty interesting. A solution that comes with it's own input device that is reasonably priced. I would be curious to see reviews.

It looks like it works as a photoshop plugin.

Here it is on the us site. $339.00.

Here it is on a vendor's site at $299.00 (scroll down).

I just noticed this is their lst of supported printers though, wonder why it wouldn/t work with all.

Supported color printers:
Epson C62
Epson 1280, 1290
Epson 2000P
Epson 2100, 2200
Epson 5500
Epson 7600, 9600

Plus....

I have just sent a note to ColorVison to ad support for more printers.
I use the Epson Stylus Photo 890, so I am stuck.

It's not bad thinking that ColorVision supports a certain range of
Epson printers going from cheap to the expensive ones:-)

I do hope to see and can read some reviews of this new product.

I hope we have now a good and final solution with PrintFIX.

I hope PrintFIX will stop my printing frustrationsJ

Hi Theo. If you search the forum for PrintFix, you will find some threads from a few days ago that talks about the product, its technology (basically a dedicated scanner), as well as I think a couple users' experience with it.

Hi Andy,

Thank you.
I did a search, found some lines....but nothing special:-)
I have to wait for real reviews....or indeed better, like
experiences from real users of the product.
Because I don't trust reviews in magazines:-))

I still hope PrintFIX will work....:-)

Yeah, I'm waiting for some reviews and more user opinions, too. And just like you, I really do hope it will work. I have tried many profiling options: Profile Prism, downloading free profiles, tweaking my printer driver settings, and so on, but none worked satisfactorily for me. I ended up buying custom profiles from Cathy, which worked absolutely wonderfully.. but at $40 a pop, it adds up. I really do hope PrintFix will be the fix-all solution to my profiling woes...

It too bad that initial user opinions such as Ron above are rather negative..

Andy

I don't have the courage to tell you how much money
I lost on paper and ink....:-))

And I have mix feelings about PrintFIX: it could be to good to be true:-)
I'll wait and see...

Theo

I've just been emailing a guy over at ColorVision to find out what the deal is with not supporting any Canon printers. He told me it is on their plate to set up. They are talking about setting up a printer request function where you can ask for specific printers to have set up to work in PrintFix as well.

I guess I'll just have to wait as I'm using an i950 at the moment...

MooShoe:

Perhaps you subscribe to the newsletter of ColorVision.
They will mail you the news when it's there:-)

But..I don't understand that ColorVision released a product
that not even supports the "popular" HP printers or Canon printers...:-)

I was thinking.

Every printer has his specific driver not? With the info this driver has, could this not be enough to do an automatic procedure to set PrintFIX for that specific printer??

In other words: If we install PrintFix, PrintFIX should find the printer driver and should

use the info this driver provides. So we get real printer profiles for the printer we ownJ

If Colorvision is using a kind of a all-purpose procedure….then I am not so sure.

I am not a specialist, I was just using some gray cellsJ
(I hope I did)

Kindest regards,
Theo

Do you think, perhaps, that the folks at ColorVision know a little bit more about printer drivers than you and I?

From what I've read, they started with Epson, and are working on the other brands - each printer model apparently has a specific target designed specially for it, and they will release them as they're finished.

They are going to work on Epson, Canon and HP at the moment. They don't have any plans of creating profiles for any of the big boys like Fuji Frontier at the moment, but if there's demand, they'll do that as well. :)

I don't understand why they'd need a different target to print for each printer. Isn't the whole point of profiling to start with some known standard (the same one for any printer) and see how it prints it out, then correct that?
