After many months of reviewing comments on this site and reading all information I could find I ordered a 10D last week on an advised 6 week delivery time. It was longer than I wanted to wait but I was resigned to it.

I was more than a little surprised to recieve a call yesterday to say it had arrived!!!

As a Canon SLR Film user for many years this is my first foray into the digital arena. Yes I have got a flash card and I am reading the manual despite wanting to start shooting now.

I look forward to starting to learn how to get the best from this product over the coming months.

Thanks to all who contribute on this forum the information from ACTUAL users is invaluable.

I know where to ask if I need help.

Congratulations....

Your patience was worth it. Although, I could not even wait a week to get my 10D.

I got my 10D today aswell. That must somehow make us related. I couldn't wait to use it so I took ap picture of the cat. From the look of it I should have spent more time reading the manual!! Anyway at least I know that everything works so now down to the serious stuff.

When I exchanged my refurb for a new 10D last Thursday morning, I thought I would not make it until FedX arrived on Friday morning.

Perry,

Put the camera in P mode and get going ASAP. I moved from the EOS 5 (A2E) film body to my 10d and they are so similar in controls that it did not take long to feel comfortable with it. You will notice it is bigger than a film body right away. I tell folks to read the manual 3 times, then keep it in the loo and refer to it often. The controls will feel familiar but there are quite a few quirks about shooting digital. One suggestion is to understand histograms and set the camera to flash the histogram after each shot so that you can judge exposure and highlights. It is best to underexpose and compensate later with this body than to overexpose.

Have fun with it.

You're gonna have FUN, which is what I tell all the 'newbies' ... you'll see. Heck, I've had mine since early October, and I LOVE it ... a LOT.

Now let's see some photographs, man!

You made a wise decision Perry. I had a Digital Rebel for 3 or 4 days and took it back for a 10D.
What lenses do you have ?

I had planned to buy a 300D but after looking at its features and studying this forum decided to go for a 10D. It did not leave me much for lenses so have started with Sigma 50mm 1.8 also18-55 & 55-200. Hope to upgrade to better lenses when I have some extra cash

Have fun Tim glad I did not have a 6 week wait
