Hey everybody. This board has been really helpful every time I needed assistance, so I figured I would ask you all for some more advice. I'm about 90% done with my website, and I wanted to have postcards ready to hand out as soon as it was up. I wanted to go with a general purpose, fine art portrait for the postcard, and I feel that these are my best three examples. Any advice on which one to go with?

Thanks for any help.

Any suggestions? I didn't want to go with any of my edgier pictures because I didn't want to limit shelf space for displaying the cards. Also, believe it or not, my last name has frequently caused confusion, due to it being a popular slang term for african-american women. Funny but true, it's why I can't ever use just my last name as a business title. So a lot of good shots are out because of that. What are your thoughts?

2 that stand out for me are the purple woman holding her knees, bottom left on a reddish bg and woman with wet hair, sleeveless vest holding a cigarette - both very atmospheric and just edgy enough to catch the eye without scaring off the faint-hearted.

between these 2, i'd go for the former: simple, graphic and it works small ... but that's just me.

While by no means a professional, I would tend to agree that having some degree of 'edginess' would be desired - you want people to remember the card, and therefore remember your business

Hmm.. what about 'splitting' the postcard - half being a traditional photo, the other half being an edgier composition, with your name in between - might show that you can do a variety of works

Just a thought.

Thanks for all of the help everybody. I went with the third one. The plan is to get more printed up when I have some more cash, so that I'll have a variety out there. I decided to go with a "safe" pic for the first round, and then I can mix in some others later on. The smoking pic has proven to be very popular, so that will probably be next, And then the second pic I showed for a third card, and possibly the plastic wrap shot, which people get a kick out of. The blue and maroon shot is a favorite of mine, but has proven very difficult o get a good print from. Thanks again everyone.

Chris,

You are correct, your last name presents some unique challenges. If I were in your shoes, I would take advantage of your last name. Instead of calling your work Chris Sista Photo, I would use Sista Photo, or simply Sista. Nice work on your website.
