Need advices on BW twist

just wondering. here's my try. i liked the color version better for some reason. i moved the vase over closer to him to get rid of negative space. i like the picture, it looks like it should go with an interview in a magazine.

thanks for sharing,
julie

Hi Julie,
Very clever move! I like it!

In the vase, there is a parfume and a few sticks of wood. The parfume goes into the wood the smell diffuses in the room. Its very subtle and nice :)

The photo presents a video artists and a friend of mine. It might end up in a magazine!
Cheers,
Raphael

Thanks Kent,

Here's the workflow on this one. First I dupe the background layer and invert, set to hue at 35% to desat a bit. Paste visible to a new layer and dupe it. Set the first to screen and run highpass on the second. Then I copied the original to the top set to color and lowered the opacity. Merged visible and ran Blur> average set to color. Last, a bit of light PWL on the shirt and darker side of the face.

Hi Raphael

I am glad you like it and it is so easy to do.

Here you go....

Duplicate layer so you have one image on top of another.

Top one make into black and white as you like. I used channel mixer etc and wanted to get some depth in the b/w/ to brun out some areas as well.

Then create a layer mask to the top one.

Enlarge picture so you can work easier and simply paint (select the mask) with a hard black brush over the items in the vase and they will become coloured again.

Any problem, let me know and I will help.
