NEC monitor - DisplayPort to DVI adapter question?

The OP post was to find a Bi-Directional cable and Rankin specifically states this not support - Do you use a puck to upload the data SpectraView into the NEC RAM?

Yes, I'm currently using an x-rite spectrophotometer, and before that used NEC's own rebranded colorimeter puck. Spectraview software talks to the monitor just fine.

I copied that link out of my Amazon purchase history. There's a chance I'm confused and that this is the cable I'm using for my non-spectraview monitor ... apologies if that's the case. I'm away from my workstation right now and won't be able to doublecheck for a couple of days.

When I bought cables for this monitor I had no idea that there were compatibility concerns with spectraview. I've just been lucky. I've had to buy cables for the monitor at least twice (like the OP, I had to accommodate video card upgrades).

Yes, I went to the web site and found that Rankie makes a series of DP to DVI cables which specifically state that some are Bi-Directional and other which are specifically are not!

All the DisplayPort to DVI and HDMI to DVI cables/adapters that I recently purchased work fine with SpectraView II as long as I used an "older" Nvidia driver with my new GPU. I'm currently backing up my system and will try some newer drivers today as I'm using an August 2023 driver and there are 14 newer ones.

I have a support ticket into Nvidia to hopefully find out why the latest driver won't allow SpectrView II to work but an older one does.

Yes, I was ready to buy another Photo Editing monitor if needed. Decent ones are about $1200+, with NEC no longer producing any good monitors. I think that I paid about $600-700 for my 1st NEC P221W, A few years ago I found a photo studio going out of business and they had a new (zero hours on it) P221W for $95! I like CCFL back lighting over LED which bothers my eyes. Matches my prints extremely well.

I like SpectraView as it calibrates and stores the cal info in the monitor. I have an Xrite I1DisplayPro, Xrite Colormunki Photo, and Xrite I1PRO that can do their own software calibration if SpectraView disappears for me.

There’s some good monitors available for less than $500.

I have some Dell and ASUS monitors that are fine, even without calibration, but that is heresy isn’t it?

I was looking at ones with built in calibration sensor and I would like HDR capability.

I would most likely go with the Asus ProArt Display PA278QV if going without a cal sensor type.

Right now I hope my P221W lasts longer as it is working just great, excellent color match to my prints and just beautiful sharp test.

546.33, Dec. 2023, and it works.

Look like the 551.xx series has bugs in them and will try a newer revised version at a later date. I'm fine with the 546.33 right now and no need to update unless there is some hidden issue down the road........

Thanks for posting back.

I'll have to remember that if I ever do hardware cal on my Asus PA329c again. (I am usually content with running a profile.)

The problem only seems to be with an older NEC monitor with NEC's SpectraView II cal system. Your Asus, newer NECs, and other monitors should have zero problems with the current Nvidia drivers.

I hope so. The PA329C is from 2019. I have had trouble with Asus' cal software, but I haven't tried it recently. (Just profiling, no hardware cal.)
