Hello all.

Finally got to use my new K-M today (my birthday). When I downloaded the images, some of them had weird artefacts on them, and worse still, a few were kind of split in half, with the top half shifted over to one side. All photos were taken in JPEG only, on top quality. I downloaded the images more than once to see if it was the image themselves, but the corruption varied.

I used picasa, windows vista. I tried the pentax software, but it crashed the pc and then hung up after a restart.
Thanks
Steve

I have seen card readers or bad memory cards do the same thing. Do you have another memory card or card reader to use? Remember, the camera can be used as the card reader with included USB cable.

Hi Eric,

Thank for that. If i did not format it, would that cause a problem? ( I forgot oops)

Sorry to hear that, and on your birthday!
Do the pics display correctly on the LCD on the cam, even when you magnify them?

Most people use an USB Sdcard reader (buy SDHC type!) which cost only a few bucks.

yup, all seems ok on the lcd. I will invest in a new card reader tomorrow :)

Format shouldn't make a difference, but it doesn't hurt to try.

If possible, try a different SD card or card reader and see if it does the same thing. If it is a problem with the SD card it will most likely be covered under warranty.

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice. Fingers crossed that it is just the card, I will invest in a new card reader tomorrow and i'll see how that goes.
All the best

I might have missed if someone else suggested, but I would try downloading the images directly from the camera via USB to see if it is in fact the reader and not the card, rather than buying a new card reader first. worth a quick try!

Hi all,

Im going to be taking some photos again today and see what happens. i reckon if i take 100 plus photos, and dont get any weird artefacts then it is the card. Ill keep you updated :)
Cheers
Steve

It must be a memory card... i always recommend formatting it when you use it for the first time with particular camera or every time you switch same memory card between different models. Otherwise you will notice that images might get corrupted as i have seen similar effects myself.

Hi All,

just got back from little trip down the local lakes, after taking about 120 more photos, it seems like my issues have been resolved. It did seem to need a good old formatting :)

but it is with the built-in SD Card reader of my PC. This happens randomly when I try to download photos from any of my cameras (Nikon, Pentax, Canon) onto my PC.

It is a lot better when I download from my SD Card through a USB-adapter. I think the advice to try a different card reader is right on.

Do you have this problem when downloading pictures from other cameras?

nope, i only got this prob with the sdhc card. my wifes oly card works fine.
