Even though I bought an E-30 over a year ago, I still have my trusty E-1 and E-510 ... I use my E-510 about 20~30% of the time; and my E-1 when I feel like it ...They didn't offer any loaner, but I did ask if I can get one (they have lots of Oly on their display case), but they said no. Luckily I still have my trusty old E-510 as a backup (over 26,000 attenuations with no problem), which I was going to sell on eBay, but now I'm keeping as a backup.
Tell them about your trip. Explain that's why you bought the camera. Ask for a loaner. Can't hurt and they may well say yes.My E-5 is still not ready yet and no calls or email from Olympus support; even though it's past the estimated Jan 5th completion date. Had to dig through Oly website to find the correct customer service number. Once I got through, the rep told me that it's waiting for parts from Japan and they hope to have it ready next week; if the parts arrive. With my upcoming trip next Sunday, I'm afraid I won't be able to get it back on time. Sigh... Will let you know how it goes next week.
Nonsense. No serious company will just change the sticker. Besides, where would they get the stickers from? OK, I know, you can buy anything in China, probably even "original" stickers, but I mean No serious company will just change the sticker in any case. What would Olympus gain in not admitting that they have replaced the camera?Sounds like you got a new camera with the old serial number stuck on it (I'm not kidding ... I had a cell phone that was "repaired" like this. Same s/no., just all made in different countries - Finland, Malaysia, Korea and back to Finland ... ).
Firmware up-date would be required if they changed the board containing the firmware chip... Since they changed the main-board... that probably holds the firmware (it gotta live somewhere).Got my E-5 back yesterday and everything seems to work fine now. I actually got the call from Oly on Monday, but was too busy with work and couldn't pick it up until yesterday. Since I picked it up just before they closed shop at 4pm, all the technicians has already left, so I couldn't get any detailed info about what's the real problem was from them. On the repair slip, this is what they put down,
"Replaced finder unit and main circuit board. Adjusted, checked all functions and cleaned. Fimware updated."
Well, I can tell you that the firmware is still 1.0, so not sure why they said it's updated. They didn't mentioned anything about the metering unit, unless that's what's on the main circuit board that got replaced.

The company was Nokia. The phone was a Nokia model 5110. The fifth one worked for over ten years. I still have the repair receipts (and the phone ... ). The phone ALWAYS came back with the same serial number, but was made in different countries. Pretty obvious.Nonsense. No serious company will just change the sticker.
